Update on Community Synthesis
Hey all,
I've got the numbers run. But like I said in my post a few days ago, I need formatting input from someone. I want to post several graphs form XL to this site, but am having trouble finding a way - I'm used to producing graphics in Word and PDF, not on the Web.
Anyway, what I need is step by step instructions on how to get a graph from XL to some kind of format (JPG?) that can be uploaded to this site. I have converted one from XL to PDF to JPG, but the resolution became so poor that the text was unreadable.
Further complicating it is that I have designed one graph to have a long Y-Axis, long enough that it would not all fit onto one Word or PDF page (but would seem to be fine on the Web, where we can scroll down indefinitely to continue a graph).
Can I get some advice from those of you who run web sites? John, Erik, Doug, etc.? You can email me, too, if you'd prefer.
SiddfynchATgmailDOTcom.
BTW, the Top 5 are:
1) Wieters and Price (basically a tie)
2) Heyward and Snider (again, basically a tie)
3) Maybin
4) Bumgarner and Rasmus (basically a tie)
5) LaPorta
Prospect 100 is David Huff, but another 129 guys were listed and come in below him.
Cahill (# 10) was the highest-rated guy to be left off of one ballot.
Villalona (#38) was the lowest-rated guy to make it on all the ballots.
Of guys who appeared on only one ballot, Ryan Kalish (#36 on that one, #145 overall) was the one listed the highest.
Strangely, there were no Rangers players listed anywhere in the top 50.

Just kidding about the Rangers.
Oh, how I do love to rattle those cages down in that no-so-large state of Texas.

Hah
I actually believed you. I thought there were so many people against the Rangers that they left off the prospects just to piss people off.
A noob or n00b is someone that lacks intellegance or common sense, most people think that noob is a word used only in the online gaming world, but in reality it is becoming an ever popular word with teenage society.
a noob could be simply a level 100 running round shouting ‘’WTF DO I GO!?’’ or someone calling someone else a noob and then getting hit with a brick, anyone can call anyone a noob, but normally they are noobs themselves

To get a graph in a pic format
You can just highlight it and do copy/paste but when you paste it click “paste as picture.”
In the older version of Office – I think you can specify if you want it as a bitmap or a jpeg.
Hope that helps a little,

I don't follow you
Yes, I can copy and paste it within XL as a JPG or Enhanced Metafile….but need to somehow save the entire file as that, not just within the XL file.
So the question becomes, what do I paste it to in order to be able to upload it to a web site? And are there better alternatives than JPGS when it comes to clarity?

Re:
Try pasting it in Paint and then saving. Should save as a picture.

Well, shoot
that’s only the top 75. The next 2/3 of the graph is cut off.
But the system works, so I can probably get it dealt with tomorrow after work. I’ll piece this main one into thirds, and some other graphs will be smaller anyway.

Google Doc
Maybe you can upload it as a Google Doc that allows public viewing, but no editing.

LaPorta
Went no lower than 31, but as high as #4.

Funny....
I’m the one that rated Matt LaPorta #31, and I’ve had him on my fantasy team since he was at the University of Florida. You would think that I might like him more than the others, rather than less.

#4
I have a feeling this may just turn out worse than the actual community list. Haha

I still want to see it though and appreciate the effort, just seems people have complete anonymity and can rank someone #1 just to screw things up a bit.

Doubt it
If anything, there seems to be less sandbagging – none of the entries appeared to be wacky or off-base. I did reject one submission that turned out to be simply a copy of their league draft.
LaPorta’s average placement was 12.5, which means his standard deviation was not atypical for other guys ranked in his neighborhood – e.g, a range between 4 and 31 is not so unsurprising. Overall, he came out pretty high in the final ranking because a) everyine voted for him, and b) he was consistently in the top 20. Relatively few prospects have that kind of consistent support at such a high level, and so he finished with a pretty high overall ranking.
Just because someone chose to list him at #4 and you would not does not make teh list bad – it might just mean they go for safer chances of offensive production than you, and care less about defense or pitching. We’ve seen this before with a guy named Billy Butler.

+1
Everyone evaluates prospects differently. Some like hitters better than pitchers due to attrition rate. Others like offense and do not pay much attention to defense. Some focus on upside over proximity to the bigs. Yet others like to get a good mix in their top 100 list.
I ranked LaPorta #5 overall, and I stand by that ranking. He has a seriously massive power bat. I like the Burrell comp, but I do not think he will be quite that streaky. I also think he will flash a bit more power than Burrell has to this point in his career. And while his D is LF isn’t that great, any smart organization will move him to 1B where he will be at the very least average, if not above average defensively.
All that adds up to someone that is worthy of a #5 overall ranking. He is probably the most “sure thing” in the minors right now.

Superlist
Any chance that we can get the composite of the full 229 superlist?

numbers
How many people submitted a top 100 list?
The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. It reminds us of all that once was good, and that could be again.

Did Jason Castro find himself on enough ballots to make him a top 150 guy?

Send me the XL
and I can put it into PDF, JPEG or most other formats and it will be legible. I’ll send it back as an attachment and you can do whatever from there

This sounds really interesting
But do you mind counting ties as 2 spots? In other words, Jason Heyward and Travis Snider are tied for 3rd, not 2nd, because 1st is Wieters and Price. Laporta is 8th, not 5th, and so forth.
