Chacin's Innings Pitched

Is anyone else out there a little concerned about Jhoulys Chacin's increased workload from 2007 to 2008?

2007 = 92 IP

2008 = 177.66

Is there something I am missing?

There are some pretty strong coorelations that when you increase 75+ innings from one year to the next that you increase the likelihood of breaking down.

I tried to find his pitches thrown this year, but was unsuccessful...anyone out there know?  filler filler filler

Those are some easy innings

He’s only got a 1.04 WHIP on the season, so maybe most guys would have worked as hard in throwing 160 IP. But I still think they may be pushing it a bit.

5 IP

For his last 8 or so regular season starts for Modesto, he was limited to 5 IP per start no matter what.

+1

I had him all season as a member of my minor league fantasy roster after his 3rd start so I had a rooting interest. The Rockies did cut his innings back significantly. There are also different reports about his height/weight out there which would concern some. he’s a lot bigger than he’s listed as on MILB.com and has a more durable build than he is given credit for.

I did notice that they started cutting him off at the 5ip per game, so that was a little bit of relief as the season closed…..AND its good to hear that he is a little bit better build (good info).

Still, now we have post season innings as well. If he was as big as Harrang, I would still be concerned.

Any opinions on how the Rockies have handle their past pitching prospects…good/bad/examples?

Rockies handling

They appear to be fairly good at developing arms. Guys like Francis, Jennings, Jimenez, Cook, and Chacon have all had decent careers to date. To be fair, it is reallytough to see how well the Rockies are at developing pitchers since they all are negatively impacted by the “Coors factor”. Nonetheless, I am fairly confident in their ability to work with young arms, judging by their past success in recent years.
