SMACKDOWN: Feliz vs Holland
Can't get much better than this. 20yr old that hits 100mph or the 21yr old lefty that touches 97. Both have dominated all season long and now seem to be competing against only each other in the AA playoffs, as their actual opponents don't seem to have a chance. Who has the better future? Who sees the majors first?
My bet is on Feliz being the best major leaguer, but that is based more on age and background than anything else. I think Holland is the first to reach the show.

I still like Feliz better
As good as Holland has looked, an extra four or so mph appeared out of nowhere this year on his FB, and I worry a bit about that going away and him being more of a 91-92 mph guy again at some point. I love the way Holland competes, and I think that it’s pretty good that each of them are as dominant in AA as they are despite having a lot of room to improve. I just get the feeling from watching a couple of Feliz’ more recent starts that he’s making remarkable progress with his second and third pitches in a short time, and as long as he’s healthy, that FB clearly isn’t going anywhere.
I will say, Holland’s upside is through the roof, to me, because of how dominant his FB is right now. Guys just look awful trying to hit it.
Offense doesn't doubt me, but my first and primemost thing is defense and punt return and kickoff return

well
Im kinda of torn, i like Holland a whole lot, there isnt a prospect that i’ve watched play that i’ve liked more. He’s been so good recently, its hard for me not to vote for him, but it may be even harder to argue with the even more tremendous upside of Feliz. If those secondary offerings come along… Uh oh. Cant wait to see both in the show

Didn't we already have this? Just copy and paste the middle of the "Dewey Style" thread here.

That was not a reasoned discussion
That was Dewey proclaiming Holland as the cure for cancer and winner of the Pulitzer, Nobel prizes in addition to every Cy Young between 2010-2020.

Holland/Bumgarner
Does anyone else see Holland as the advanced form of Bumgarner? Great fastbal, lefties, great fastball command/control, developing secondary offerings(obviously Holland has better secondary stuff).

Feliz
From what I’ve seen of him lately his secondary stuff seems to be really coming around.

I think alot of the
ventiment defense of Holland and Feliz from Rangers fans come from the fact that now they can see every one of their Home starts in person with the location of the Rangers AA team in Frisco, a suburb of Dallas.
I personally have seen 2 of Hollands and 1 of Feliz’s starts in Frisco, and like a lot of the other Rangers posters, Its extremely hard to not come away incredibly impressed. Its not just stuff or stats, a lot of it is the defeated reactions of their opponents throughout the game.
If I had to pick one, I picked Holland, just because of his being a LHP.

yea...
its pretty rare to get all hyped about some prospects really sweet stats and then go watch him in person and get even more excited about them, but i think that definitely applies to pretty much every ranger fan who has seen these two guys in person.

Feliz
Has the better stuff and higher ceiling. Holland has been a great surprise this season, but he’s still #2 in the system. The ease of Feliz’ delivery and the progress of his secondary pitches put him a tic ahead of Holland. I expect Holland to have a less exciting 2009, maybe come back to the pack just a bit, but still look like a solid #2 in the not so distant future. Feliz looks like an ace.

I hate this smackdown
Feliz would be the Braves #1 starter next year IMO.

ouch
its gonna be tough to swallow for braves fans watching the likes of Salty, Andrus, Harrison, Feliz and even the throw in Beau Jones (who’s done really well as a RP) develop over the next few years, Im not sure if its as bad as us Rangers fans watching every single pitcher we’ve ever let go turn into studs for another team…

Could be worse
The Braves traded away a lot, but still have a decent farm system, so it could be worse. How would you like to be a Detroit fan right now? The farm is barren, they look like they’ll cut payroll any way they can, and their moon shot didn’t work.

We have a decent shot next year
If we sign another shortstop and a mid-rotation starter and a couple veteran arms for the bullpen…
Okay, that sounds pathetic, but Detroit’s not in a horrible position for next year. It’s 2010 and on that we need to worry about…

I have both
someone else snaked bumgarner in my league, and price was long gone. Still available in my league: hanson, chacin, anderson, alderson, cecil, huff. And how about Kris Medlin last night? 9 -5-0-0-0-12

dead on

I think your prediction is correct. Holland is ahead of Feliz in the ancillary aspects of pitching. Stuff like holding runners, etc.
Nolan Ryan should be the Rangers president, GM, manager and pitching coach.

As a Ranger fan
I have to say I love that this argument is possible and matters.
