BA Texas League Top 20
Got the issue with all the lists in it yesterday, so here ya go...
1 - Dexter Fowler
2 - Chris Davis
3 - Kyle Blanks
4 - Vin Mazzaro
5 - Elvis Andrus
6 - Daniel Cortes
7 - Jess Todd
8 - Julio Borbon
9 - Max Ramirez
10 - James Simmons
11 - Aaron Cunningham
12 - Kila Ka'aihue
13 - Daryl Jones
14 - Steve Garrison
15 - Will Inman
16 - Jon Jay
17 - Kevin Jepsen
18 - Fernando Salas
19 - Casey Weathers
20 - Chris Johnson
Now remember, these lists lean more towards performance than other BA lists, and rankings are in context of the league. NOW you can start whining.

There's Daryl Jones
OK, they stuck him here. Behind Cunningham. well, i have Cunningham, so ok.
Mazzaro beats out Holland and feliz, but they stuck them in their low A leagues.

Im glad they didnt punish Cortes too much
people are going to look at his traditional pitching stats and not correct for league or park, but he actually had an excellent year.

Not sure I'd say excellent...
But still very good. Hopefully he can start to tone down the walks…

his GB rate is a bit low for me
only 38% after 39% last year

That'll work in what will be his home park

Which
is exactly why the Texas league made his great peripheral numbers look like mediocre traditonal pitching numbers…
Very, very strong components from Cortes. This league really hurt him. Expect him to come charging out of the gates next year and remind everyone he’s one of the better pitching prospects in the game.

Good to see Daryl on the list.

I'll try to be around when they do the chat
to ask where he would have ranked.

I'm going to start expressing my critiques in tanka form
BA Prospect Lists
Slap hitters rule, sluggers drool
The eighties were nice
No one hit evil “home runs” and
wearing pink pants wasn’t gay.

Agreed
Fowler, Davis, and Blanks are textbook slap hitters.

davis is anyway
I heard Tim Lincecum will win 1 Cy Young & 11 Tim Lincecums. Question is, how many Cole Hamels will he win?

Andrus
I can’t believe Andrus isn’t higher given the lack of middle infield prospects in the minors right now. The power and plate discipline aren’t there now, but he is still extremely young.

i guess BA doesnt put much relevance
in performance of relievers…since weathers can be a top notch one and just barely makes the list…i wonder if carignan was close at all

With that walk rate?
Doubt it. He’s got a ways to go to be MLB caliber.
Hopefully he’ll be working on his command in the AFL.

plus
unless hes changed since college (entirely possible obviously) he doesn’t have a whole lot more than that fastball.

I've heard nothing on his offspeed stuff since last year when it was primitive
Supposedly his fastball has increased in velocity significantly since the A’s picked him, but (obviously) he needs at least a decent second pitch to get guys out at the MLB level.
You know, looking at Weathers’s line from this year, he wasn’t exactly painting the corners either. 28 walks in 44 innings.

Kila's numbers are insane
I guess only because he had limited at-bats here? A home run in every 11 at-bats and an insane 2:1 BB:K ratio?!
