BA Florida State League Top 20
Got the issue with all the lists in it yesterday, so here ya go...
1 - Rick Porcello
2 - J.P. Arincibia
3 - Logan Morrison
4 - Jeremy Jeffress
5 - Adrian Cardenas
6 - Jeremy Hellickson
7 - Sean West
8 - Wilson Ramos
9 - Scott Cousins
10 - Michael Taylor
11 - Todd Frazier
12 - Drew Stubbs
13 - Chris Valaika
14 - Jose Ceda
15 - Juan Francisco
16 - Taylor Green
17 - Cale Iorg
18 - Francisco Samuel
19 - Jonathan Lucroy
20 - Zach McAllister
Now remember, these lists lean more towards performance than other BA lists, and rankings are in context of the league. NOW you can start whining.

Interesting on the Reds....
I know these lists aren’t exactly prospect rankings per se, but I don’t have Valaika that close to Stubbs and Frazier, but certainly ahead of Francisco. Valaika did tear that league apart early on though before his promotion.

Oh and thanks for typing the three lists out Brett!
I am sure I speak for others when I say I appreciate the effort to just type all of those out.

You Are All Welcome
I’ll probably do AA tomorrow, then AAA the next day. This is enough to chew on for one day.

What the hell?
Where’d Daryl Jones for petes sake. He was at Palm Beach for most of the season.

I think the FSL managers
need to put the crack pipe down next time they are compiling these lists

Jones made Texas League list
But other guys made two lists if they played enough in each league, like Arencibia.

JP and his few walks ranked 2nd in the league
This is one of the weakest top 20 i’ve seen for this league in years.

jeffress over hellickson?
I stopped reading after that

pay attention
Jeffress put up a FIP of 3.19 while striking out 11.5 per 9 with a 100 mph fastball that moves.
If that doesn’t scream “prospect” to you, I’m not quite sure what you’re looking for. Hellickson can barely crack 90 mph, yet you really think they’re worlds apart?
I'll warm up with you anytime

Well...
From the writeups
“Jeffress’ fastball doesn’t have a whole lot of movement”
“Hellickson’s fastball sits between 92-94 mph and he can add a tick more velocity when he needs to”

jeffress
he throws 100. ok fine.
hellickson and jeffress are the same age, same height.
both played virtually identicle levels of competition.
Who had the better year in other catagories besides besides radar gun readings (especially when hellickson is 92-94)?
myself personally, i dont like 100 mph ball 4’s

+1
i’m with you. i’ll take jeffress!
I heard Tim Lincecum will win 1 Cy Young & 11 Tim Lincecums. Question is, how many Cole Hamels will he win?

well then Hellickson should be better
Sounds like Jeffress might be the next Jeff Farnsworth with straight heat.

Sounds Like...
You’re mixing up your Farnsworths.

cousins over taylor?
cousins is older, and had a lower oba and slugging, and taylor’s road numbers were even better. Maybe Cousins has a better eye, or something else I don’t see.

Maybe...
A broader set of tools?

I really dont like Arencibia over Logan...
but the biggest shock to me is that people arent having conniptions over McAllister being “only” #20.
He got talked up around here so much(especially the Top X AL East Prospects thread) that people had this guy as one of the best pitching prospects in the game. It was sort of like the Derek Holland effect. Thanks to BA for the reality check for them. Good prospect, but there are plenty of guys just like him or better in the minors….
Other little gripes IMHO: Stubbs is a little too, Hellickson should be top 3, and Id drop Cardenas a litte… not sold on that guy…

hellickson
I think perhaps the opinion of him is colored by his homer totals in double-A. he gave up a lot. Although as few walks as he allows, he could get by even if he allows homers, a la Robin Roberts, Fergie jenkins, later period Blyleven or Johan Santana.

What about Jose Ceda?
Anybody think he might be a little low, if he could be as good of a closer as some have suggested?

i know this may have nothing to do w/ his ranking but he’s gonna have wait a long time to get a shot at closing games unless he’s dealt.
