San Diego
- Kellen Kulbacki
it’s not like he’s come out of nowhere, 1000+ OPS in A+ in his first full season, 873 OPS in his debut, led the college circuit in home runs the year before, gorgeous swing
reminds me a lot of Giles in batting style, peripherals, and body

Kulbacki
Was actually my number six, and I was split on him and Blanks, but ultimately went with Blanks because he has proven himself more.
I do like Kulbacki however, and it was pretty much a tossup.

Is there another Chris Carter on the D-Backs?

Giants
I really can’t argue with the names or the order.
Hopefully Fairley, Noonan, Gillaspie, and Raphael Rodriguez can step their games up and make this a truley great minor league system.

Sosa
I really think Sosa took some huge steps backwards this year, and combined with the flukiness of his performance in the Sally in ‘07 and the real downturn of his performance after being promoted to the Cal league in the second half of ’07, I’m not sure I’d put him in the top 5. Probably fill it with Gillaspie at this point (though before he got hurt Crawford’s debut was pretty eye-popping) with RafRod, Adrianza, and Noonan waiting in the wings.
Get the hell out the way Bengie, Pablito's hit the show!

Haren Trade?
I’m assuming this is the one that went to Oakland in the Haren deal. The only other Chris Carter is in the Red Sox system.

My mistake
Didn’t realize he was included in that deal. Damn, A’s are loaded now…
All those guys fill out the rest of their Top 10 nicely.

Chris Carters
The Dbacks got one Carter from the White Sox and sent him to Oakland, after they had sent another one to the Nationals, who then sent him to Boston for Wily Mo. So far as I know, neither of them was the Chris Carter who recently directed the new X-Files movie.
I like to think the Benny Hill music was playing as Chris Carters shuffled across the country.

yeah
this whole dual Chris Carter thing is a problem. Doesn’t help that they are both sluggers.
Thankfully one is black and a little younger and the other is white and a little older.
There is also the dual Ryan Brauns (one is a AAA/MLB reliever for the Royals, the other is obviously the Brewers slugging LF), the trio of Josh Fields (Mariners first round closer out of UGA; White Sox 3b/ex-Ok St QB; and a minor league White Sox reliever) and of course we had two shortstops from the state of GA go in the top 10 picks share the same last name yet were unrelated.
I think there are some other confusing pairs/trios I’m missing..
Obviously the best pair in baseball history was the two crap-pitching Bobby Joneses

I prefer the two Jeff D'Amico's
One was healthy, one was good. Two guys with the same somewhat esoteric name, and combined, they could have been great.
As for the Bobby Jones, that brings up rough memories for this Mets fan. One lefty, one righty, both sucky. I still remember there being one or two accidental transactions because even the Mets were confused about the 25-man roster.

Top 5
Is pretty good….I just like all the other guys a bit more.
Looking back at that list, all pitchers, wow.

Their top 5 seems pretty tightly packed
It would be pretty easy, I think, to argue for re-ordering those five guys in any way. Certainly, a lot of us would argue for McDonald higher, and between Martin’s inexperience and Elbert’s injury past, it would be easy to push them a tick down.

Dodgers
No love for Andrew Lambo or Ivan DeJesus? Seems like they’d both be in the top five.

Agree
They definitely should be in there over Elbert and Withrow.

Dodgers
I’d probably go something like this:
1. James McDonald
2. Andrew Lambo
3. Scott Elbert
4. Ivan DeJesus
5. Pedro Baez

I heard Tim Lincecum will win 1 Cy Young & 11 Tim Lincecums. Question is, how many Cole Hamels will he win?

Baez
Had a bad year – didn’t hit his weight in low A (.178BA), ops’d barely .500 in 185ab. Sent back down to Rookie Ogden, he hit .267, and struck out over 1/4 of the time with 18 walks in 247 AB. Power spiked in the thin mountain air, slugging .502, but at this time he wouldn’t make my top 5 – barely makes top ten. In addition to the above, I would have Withrow, Martin, Lindblom, and Gallagher ahead of him, and possibly Bell, Delmonico, and Strange-Gordon. I hope he turns it around next year, but at this time I don’t see him as top 5.

#5
I wasn’t sure who to put 5, so I went with the toolsy Baez whom Logan White loves. Withrow has barely pitched and Martin is out for a while with an injury. Lindblom is an rp who doesn’t get me exicted too much. I forgot about Gallagher, he should definitely be above Baez and maybe Bell too.
I don’t know too much about Delmonico or Strange-Gordon.

I saw McDonald pitch last night, albeit in a meaningless 10-1 rout, but his stuff was impressive. Big kid too.
