Jon Niese first inning

Wow what an inning.

Jon Niese, in one inning, showed the good and the bad.

To the first batter, Rickie Weeks, Jon threw a fastball at 91 up and away, and followed that up with a 90 MPH fastball on the inside corner, which was smashed by Weeks for a leadoff homer.

Niese's parent's were shaking in their boots, however Jon seemed rather expressionless.

To the second batter, JJ Hardy, Niese's inability to get his fastball or changeup over caused him to allow a 4 pitch walk. Whoopee.

Niese was feeling a little more pressure as Ryan Braun stepped up, and worked a full count. Jon walked Braun.

Dan Warthen approached the mound, to direct his young padawan.

With Fielder up, Niese began to change his approach, throwing him a NASTY curve with 16" of movement to force a groundout. the runners moved up.

Despite going deep into counts, Niese showed off his curveball to strike out Corey Hart and Mike Cameron (on a good changeup) back to back, finally finishing off the inning by throwing 30 pitches,  half of which were for strikes.

Jon has a work in progress change, an average to above average fastball, and a freaky good curve
