Reds get Micah Owings to complete Dunn deal

Reds get Micah Owings to complete Dunn deal

PHOENIX -- After weeks of speculation, pitcher Micah Owings officially became the third player acquired by the Reds in the trade that sent Adam Dunn to the Diamondbacks.

Owings will join the Reds on Friday. To make room for him on the 40-man roster, second baseman Brandon Phillips (broken right index finger) was placed on the 60-day disabled list.

Owings, 25, was 6-9 with a 5.93 ERA in 18 starts and four relief appearances for Arizona this season before he was demoted to Triple-A Tucson on July 29.

On Aug. 11, the Reds dealt Dunn to the Diamondbacks for utility player Wilkin Castillo, Minor League pitcher Dallas Buck and a third player to be named. Owings' inclusion was held up because of an oblique injury which prohibited him from being placed on waivers. All players dealt after July 31 must first clear waivers.

Nice haul, IMHO

He’ll probably get hit around more at GABP, but he might also set a post-war record for most home runs in a season.

Vogt early, Vogt often.

Owings

So you are telling me no team claimed him right now? I find that odd.

Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.

The logical explanation

is that only a couple teams had waiver preferences above the Reds and since it was obvious, league-wide, that Owings was only on waivers to go to Cincy no one wanted to be a jerk and claim him.

If you claimed him you wouldn’t get him, he would just be withdrawn and then sent as a waiver-free PTBNL in Oct or Nov.

What about Chris Davis – his power is silly

When Bryan said that

Davis was still in the minors, not that it wasn’t becoming apparent that he would be in the middle of that lineup for years to come.

Offense doesn't doubt me, but my first and primemost thing is defense and punt return and kickoff return
