2008 sleepers
I would love to see you review your Sleeper Alerts from the ’08 book — you had a number of really great calls, if I recall correctly, such as Jhoulys Chacin, Allen Craig, David Hernandez. It would be interesting to see you re-visit and see how those guys performed this year.

Any crystal ball would be GREAT!!!!!
Also, I wouldn’t mind seeing:

Hi John
I suggest doing a non-baseball post. Like your favourite summer movies this year (my choice is Wall-E!) or your favourite songs of the summer (mine is by Lady Gaga!)
I've got a McPheever, and only JoJo Reyes can help me!

I also wouldn’t mind a predictions piece. Maybe of who you think will make their respective clubs out of spring training next year?

How about something on Drew Stubbs?
He seems to be making some decent strides in his game, yet is still quite the controversial prospect.

David Price or if not that then maybe something on international signees, such as Wilmar Flores.

Maybe have a series called something like “Prospect Crossroads: Is he done or is their still a chance?”
You could profile a few players who seem destin to be busts but may have a sliver of hope to slavage their careers.
BTW i still think Duncan needs to get out of that organization, the way they rushed him was unbelieveable.
Duncan
Or down to AA. I think he’s still only 23.

I’ve never gotten the love for Eric Duncan. Yes he’s only 23, but the guy has NEVER hit. .260 is the highest batting average he’s put up in full season ball, and he did that in at an age-appropriate level 4 years ago.
Did the Yankees rush him? Sure. But it isn’t like he was actually good in the first place. His plate discipline sucks, he strikes out a ton, his defensive value is mediocre. He’s had plenty of chances to show that he can do something, anything. He just hasn’t.
Hrmm...
See, I take a different view of Duncan. He’s shown the capacity for being a more than decent hitter in fits and starts. He still has good tools, and he showed strong performance considering his ARL (particularly in terms of plate discipline) early on. Even this season, his numbers looked like they were finally coming along until he hit a wall.
Duncan has 2 unsuccessful seasons in AAA in a row, and I think it’d be fair to stop expecting anything of him, and it’s the regression he showed this year that really troubles me. However, I think it’s too early to entirely, completely, wholly give up on him. He’ll only be 24 in AAA next season, and that’s not that old. There’s still plenty of time for him to put it together and prove himself worthy. Is it likely? No, absolutely not. But I don’t think he should be left for dead. I do think he needs to get out of the Yankees system, and get to a more hitter friendly one. Duncan remains in possession of solid tools, and has shown the ability to draw a walk, hit a homer, and keep his k’s in check in the past. His problem is BA, and I think that the right coach might be able to overhaul his swing and turn him into something useful at the major league level.

How about something on Chris Carter, John? He certainly gets enough attention around here to warrant it . . .
or a breakdown of each teams draft?
like notable picks 1-5 and other notables?
Jay Jackson (Cubs)
Jay Jackson Rp 9th round Furman University. Pitched 99 innings in college and played a position when he wasnt pitching. Since signing he’s pitched 50 innings with 40 hits with 72 k’s and only 13 walks and most of this at Peoria and Daytona. He will be starting on Tuesday in Daytona’s playoff game vs Palm Beach.
Pence VS. Hermida
prospect retro. went and found your write ups on Pence and Hermida, they never faced eachother. both had great yrs last year and have stunk up the joint this year. what can we expect from each next yr? who is the man?
Taking Our First Look At
The Phenom, Wilmer Flores
Brett Wallace
An analysis of Wallace would be great. I saw him play briefly at Quad-Cities and he absolutely tore it up there, and I believe he’s the first ’08 draftee in AA.
Hey John
I would like to see the Mat Latos vs. Jordan Walden discussion revisted, a season later.
I would also like to see your opinions on where Fautino De Los Santos will end up next year, and how you think he will pitch.
Keep up the good work!
S-T-R-A-S-B-E-R-G!
Or, I’d love to see your top 10 overall amateur players to watch heading in to the ’09 college/prep season.
It’d be great for those of us following terrible teams this year to know what our top-10 pick is going to land our favorite team in the draft.

ELI!!!!
QB’s are judged on rings. Romo needs to win a playoff game before a can say he is better then Eli.
P.S. I am also a Niners fan. It is going to be a LOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNGGGGGGGG season.

I don't agree on the ring thing
That means Terry Bradshaw is as good a QB as Montana and I will never ever come close to believing that.
Eli won the Super Bowl with an amazing run of good play, but his defense is what truly won him his ring.
Just looking at the QB themselves Romo is easily the better QB consistently.
Ugggghhhh
Let me restate, IN GENERAL QBs are judged on Rings. That is why I think Marino is one of the most overrated QBs of all time. Personally I would take Montana, Brady, Favre, Aikman, Elway, Peyton Manning, Bradshaw, etc ahead of him.
The fact that Romo has not been able to win ONE playoff game yet with a superior NFC team is beginning to become very alarming. If he loses in the first round again this year I guarantee his time as starter in Dallas is over.

Also
Romos isn’t “easily the better QB”.
Romo easily has the better offensive weapons around him.

That's very arguable
the Giants receiving corp is better as a whole than the Cowboys corp, but the Cowboys have better top weapons. Their lines are both very similar.
Football Prospectus rates the chances of the Niners winning 11 games this year at "0%"

Crystal Ball
Your thoughts on who might be called up for the Sept 1st roster expansion. Might be alittle late due to monday being the first but at least some of the bigger names that might make a splash.
I'd be interested in your take on Brad Ziegler at some point
Based on his story alone he’s definitely easy to think about but he’s in his second year as a sidearm/submarine reliever after being a starter previously and we’ve already seen how effective he’s been this season.
He’s bound to even out somewhere along the way but I’m curious to see what you think his chances are of remaining effective given his ground ball rate and the like, the more he gets used to pitching like this. He still has times where the ball is left up or tails to the right because of a little trouble with his release point, which shows he hasn’t quite mastered this yet.
It’s just a remarkable story all around.

It would be interesting to see..
What you think of Travis Ishikawa. Last year he died but had a good year this year and is back in the bigs with a chance to have 1B next year for the Giants.

I would like you to do some Top 10 lists but
instead of teams top 10’s.
Do pieces on the top 10 in the minors:
Power Hitters, Base Stealers, Fastball, Curveball, etc.
Think it would be interesting to see your views on the best of the best in MILB across the various tools.
It would probably take some time to compile, but I am sure it would create a lot of posts and would get great discusssions.
Top farms would be my 2nd interest.
Thanks,
This is a really good idea

How about
Proposing some trades of prospects between teams that make sense given their respective organizational needs, e.g. TEX needs near-ready starting pitching (preferably LH’ed), CIN needs catching → Saltalamacchia to CIN for Homer Bailey.
How bout
1. International FAs and ones that could be in the bigs next year.
2. Players who are likely to make their respective teams out of spring training next year.
3. Possible offseason trade proposals that involve prospects.
4. Biggest 2008 flukes (Gavin Floyd, anyone).
I see the future. I see cake.
Not A Rookie
I’d really like some Not A Rookies next year, Like HEadley or LaRoche or Kershaw to name a few.
how about
a post ranking the farm systems with insight?
This might be too long
But some people have been arguing about the difficulty of pitchers like Henry Alberto Rodriguez who rely mostly on terrific fastballs to succeed at higher levels, and have suggested that maybe people like Neftali Feliz or Madison Bumgarner will have trouble once they face more mature hitters. Would you be interested in writing your thoughts about them?

Where did this guy come from
Carlos Santana. He’s having a terrific season and I wonder what you think about him
Mike Aviles
How about a prospect retro on him
Gaby Sanchez - 2008
Gaby has had a wonderful year. High OBP, .300+ BA, lots of 2b’s and a decent show of power. Has hit almost every night. One of the top RBI guys in his league. So, how come he doesn’t get any attention? Never mentioned in the lists of top players in the league, no call to AAA, nothing. It would appear that his tryout at 3b was concluded and he is stuck at 1b.
What are your feelings about Gaby? How do the Marlins feel about him?
