Brian Bogusevic?

Earlier this season, Astros pitching prospect Brian Bogusevic was converted into an OF (where he played at Tulane). Supposedly, upon being drafted, many people thought he'd make a much better hitter, than pitcher. So, 3 years after being drafted and failing as a SP - he has been moved to the position in which people liked him more.

In 36 games with Corpus Christi (AA), he is hitting .337/.430/.541 with 7 2b, 2 3b, 3 hr, and 6 steals (and a 15-20 bb/k rate).

What is everyone's take on this 24 yr old convertee? I've heard Rick Ankiels name tossed around (only because of the conversion thing, I assume), but how does brian profile on a major leaguer level?

I'm pretty sure actually

that, entering the draft, he was better liked as a LHP because he was an athletic lefty with a good frame, good arm and a couple quality pitches.

Also, he had a poor offensive season his final year in college due to injuries, so that also made it hard to get good looks at his offensive potential

Profile

It’s hard to say. Defensively, he’s got plenty of arm for RF (obviously) and has the raw speed to play CF (4.1 down the line), though RF is his long-term position. Offensively, he’s got some pop, has shown decent plate discipline, hitting ability, and speed. But, outside of the speed, it’s hard to project how well he’ll perform in the other hitting categories as a major-leaguer (or as minor-league teams get more looks at him). He’s definitely a guy to watch, though and the success he’s had so far is very impressive.

Update

Brian is headed for the Arizona Fall League with the Scottsdale Scorpions.

Went off the charts after a slow first 20 ab’s and in his second go round came back to the .320’s but is again on a tear with a .425 ba over the past 10 games and 5 consecutive multi-hit games in a row.

OBP .451 SLG .552 OPS 1.003

Not a bad start for a converted OF’er/
