Remember Dallas?

Stay connected for news and updates

Dallas McPherson is kind of a question in himself. He was drafted at age 20 by the Angels after raking at Citadel, and continued to rake in the minors. He was a big guy and certainly no joke, as both a good K pitcher and power hitter.

After being promoted in the Anaheim system for a brief stint in 2004, McPherson had showed that his power was real, going only 9 for 40, but 4 of those hits were for extra bases, and 3 of them were homers.

In a longer stint in 05, Dallas put up a .244/.295/.449 line, still showing some nice power potential, but McPherson's OBP was still atrocious and he struck out a helluva lot. 2006 wasn't better, and by the 2008 preseason McPherson was a free agent. His MLB totals with the Angels included 18 HR in 360 ABs, as well as a .214 Isop, but his OBP was only .294.

The Marlins signed him for nothing this off season, and in Triple-A Albequerque, Dallas has put up some interesting numbers, including 40 HR, .381 OBP, 18 2B, 13 SB.

So I'm wondering, why hasn't he been promoted? Why no doubles? How much of a AAAA player can a person be?

Is Alfredo Amezaga really more worthy of a roster spot than Dallas?
