07 draft SP smackdown
i wont go into a detailed analysis. just who do you like most out of these 5, who have had very good 08's so far and moved fairly within their farm systems. they will most likely be ready in 09 or so
poreda
simmons

todd

The only thing left to see is how the Blue Jays are going to mess THIS one up

Ill go low risk
Arrieta
Simmons
Poreda
Cecil
Todd
I loved Arrieta from the beginning. Good stuff, tough competitor, good approach. He’s that bulldog type… theyre good bets.
Simmons is pretty good at everything. Good approach, good stuff, good make up. I would have liked him even if he had a so-so season… but what he’s done has really impressed me.
Poreda I didnt care for much in the past, but he’s impressed me. I still need to see him at higher levels to see if he’s just getting by on his heater, but so far so good. Probably highest ceiling of the five.
Cecil I liked, but I really need to see him hold up healthy for a couple full seasons before I get excited. I just immediately discount college closers, even if they have mutliple plus pitches. The guy will be a MLB pitcher either way though.
Todd does nothing for me, to be honest with you.
I also doubt that Poreda and Cecil will be ready in 09.

Not sure you can get by in AA with Simmons 89-92 MPH Fastball.
Henry Rodriguez couldnt with with 99MPH Fastball.

arrieta
if you are going with low risk, i wouldn’t have arrieta at the top. his control is still pretty shaky. all of the other guys are much more consistent strike throwers, and they have all had success at higher levels. he may be one of the higher upside guys in this group, but he is also one of the riskier ones.

Disregard that. I miss read what you said.
I thought you were talking about Simmons getting by on just his fastball.
