How good is Cliff Pennington?

24 year old shortstop at Sacramento. .294/.420 in AAA and that doesnt even show the whole story because he got off to a real slow start. This kid wow'd everyone in college  with his all out play, speed and on base ability and he has certainly had a breakout season w/ a 30+steal/100 walk type season. The walk rate is just ridiculous. As a shortstop, his defensive skills are solid, and his bat would carry at 2b but his value would obviously take a hit.

Where does he rank with the current shortstop prospects in the minors ? I know some other guys might be a year younger or doing it at a higher level but I think this kid's combo of speed, obp, defense, etc could be a good mlb SS and end this bobby crosby era in oakland. After several yrs of injuries and a former 1st rd pick, has his 08 season rid himself of the bust label and transitioned into a quality SS prospect?

What did you do..

just copy the Tyler Flowers post and change the name?

Wow, lol, that's hilarious

Pretty much copied everything, changed the numbers, and even kept the bizarre misspelling (or, more accurately, bizarre apostrophe placement) of the word wowed.

For what it’s worth, I can’t imagine Pennington would be worse than Bobby Crosby at this point.

Not good at all

and certainly not worthy of his own thread, albeit a copied one.

Response

Still doesn’t rate very high. No power.

But at least now you can project the guy to have a solid career as a bench guy who brings versatility, speed and good intangibles to his team. You can never be too sure about middle infielders because they don’t need to hit that much to be useful as starters . . .but then again, Pennington has never really hit in the first place.

Moneypenny is not very good

This year is literally the first good year he’s had in pro ball… period. And the shocker is, it all started when he went to Sacramento (AAA)! In AA this year he stunk.

Hopefully he figured SOMETHING out.

Called up today

Starting at 3rd, let’s see what he’s got. Anything’s better than Hannahan.

Hopefully his impressive walk rate holds up in the majors.

Never, Never, NEVER give up
