Strat-O-Matic Futures Game Roster Help

I've been playing in a great Strat-O-Matic league for about ten years, and I'm going to host a Futures Game this year.  I don't post here much, but I read the fan posts quite a bit, and I was hoping some of you might want to help me pick the rosters.  Each team has seven players (before trades) that have never seen MLB time.  I'm going to draw the Futures Game rosters from these players, and would like to have at least one player from each team, if possible.

I've pasted the rosters below.  If you're interested, respond with your suggested AL and NL rosters, recognizing that I'll actually be playing this game, so I need to have at least two guys at every position.  I'm thinking of rosters of 25 or 27 guys, if it works out.

I know many of these guys are in MLB right now, but they're still eligible for this game.  Feel free to use whatever criteria you want when making your selections.

Any questions?  (Remember, one AL roster and one NL roster.)

Oh, if you're curious, I'm the Metropolis Avengers, and you can see our full league website here Brassball.

Thanks a bunch for the help.  I'll be sure to report back with the results after I play the game...

Here are the rosters:

I'm also a member of this league...

Andrus.

Don’t know enough of the stats of these players to populate complete teams, but I think Andrus should make the AL roster, despite his modest offensive contributions. A “1” shortstop is such a big deal in Strat, and everything I’ve read suggests that he’s as good as there is defensively in the minors. And, it’s not like he’s totally stinking at .295/.355/.351 in AA with 31 SB already this year.

P.S. Gotta be happy with your players on Metropolis, I’m thinking. :)

Screw Metropolis

I would take the texas Chickenhawks over them easily. But one is more pitching heavy and one is more hitting heavy. I like having the hitters, I see less risk with them. And the pitchers they do have are either polished, or getting their TJ surgery out of the way already lol.

Honestly...

I didn’t review any of the other teams for comparisons… just the guy who wasn’t too much of a “Chickenhawk” to post here :>. And he has done well at collecting prospects, IMO.

Obviously, Texas with Bruce and LaPorta has some serious guns. I’d like them more than I do now if Fautino wasn’t hurt.

Fuck it....

I’m bored and can’t sleep. I’ll give it a go. The NL rosters are a lot better on paper than the AL ones. In no particular order, I put 25 men on each roster. 2 of each infield position, 4 outfielders, and 11 pitchers. My personal preferences are included here. I did not add the Japanese players since I think of them as “now” and not future, plus with their age, their future is limited.

AL:
C – Teagarder & Anderson
1B – Davis & Mills
2B – Antonelli & Iribarren
3B – Longoria & Vitters
SS – Moustakas & Triunfel
OF – Crowe, Heyward, A-Jax & Burgess
P – Scherzer, Matusz, Tillman, Alderson, Anderson, Jeffress, Volstad, Walden, Masterson, Carrasco, & Gonzalez

NL:
C – Wieters & Jaso
1B – Alonso & Smoak (tough leaving off Anderson & Hosmer, but there will be more Future Games for them)
2B – Ramirez & Weeks
3B – Alvarez & Villalona (although Villalona is a 1B now)
SS – Escobar & Lowrie
OF – Bruce, LaPorta, Rasmus, & Reimold
P – Crow, Feliz, Hellickson, McDonald, Perez, Porcello, Price, Cueto, Adenhart, de los Santos, & Sosa

If we went to 27 men per roster, I would add Andrus & Gorkys to the AL roster. Can make a case for Andrus to play over Triunfel, but I have a bad feeling regarding him, and I am a Mariner fan. So I went Triunfel. I would add Michael Saunders and Mayberry Jr to the NL roster. I just drafted Mayberry in my DMB League, I think he is horribly underrated. I see a lot of 260 batting average seasons with 30+ homers in his future.

Thanks...

Thanks for your thoughts, Boxkutter. Yeah, Angel’s a 1B now. I should have switched him.

Any others want to chime in? The readers here are about the most knowledgeable when it comes to the minors, so I thought this would be perfect!

curiosity

I’ve only played Strat a few times as a young teenager, so I don’t remember everything about it.

I do play Dyansty League Baseball(Formerly PTP).

My question is, does Strat make cards for the minor leaguers? Or, how can you actually play a futures game with guys who have not appeared in the majors yet?

The Dyansty League I am in does have a futures game, but we are restricted to players who played enough in MLB last year to get carded. So, this years ‘futures’ game will likely have Saltalamacchia playing(for example).

Once I set the rosters, I’ll find cards from MLB players that seem most similar to each prospect. I’ll use the “edit” feature to change their names, then play ball. That’s part of the fun, actually. I mean, who gets to be Matt Wieters? Not too many switch-hitting catchers to choose from. Posada? Simmons? Tettleton?

What about David Price? Any thoughts on him (or other players)?

Any other votes?

C’mon guys, I know you all know your stuff…
