Niese Promotion?
As we all know, Jon Niese has been terrific, if not very good in AA. He's a strikeout/ground ball left hander who hasn't even been allowing a lot of long balls.
So now that I'm done bragging about him, I'm happy to report that Niese had a beautiful start for New Orleans, allowing one run on 3 hits (one of them a solo shot) and 2 walks in 7 innings, in which he struck out 7 guys.
The Mets' pitching has been struggling. After a long stretch of pitching beautifully, the Mets have 2 injured starting pitchers, and a bullpen that is constantly allowing baserunners and runs.
I'm thinking tht a Jon Niese promotion could be imminent, no?

first guy up
He’ll probably be the first guy called up if one of the starters get hurt, although if it’s just for a start or two, I’d strongly consider Tony Armas, Nelson Figueroa, Claudio Vargas, Ruddy Lugo, and Brian Stokes, in that order.
They just promoted him, I’d like to see him finish out the year in AAA rather than risk getting his brains beat in in the majors, which would have the double negative effect of not being good for Niese nor the Mets.

Maybe August 11
The Mets are planning on going with a spot starter August 11, just because they have a stretch of 23 straight games and want to keep the arms fresh (remember it was mainly the SP that collapsed last September).
They are also skipping John Maine one start, as he recovers from his shoulder soreness, but won’t need another SP to do that. Maine will pitch again Aug 9, assuming no problems there.
