Braves

Much more likely to trade Will Ohman than Mark Teixeira. Chances are that the two draft picks are going to be worth more than what Frank Wren could get for Tex.

by was385 on Jul 22, 2008 1:37 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I don't know about Tex staying

But I agree that it would be much more surprising to see Ohman still around. For all the hype surrounding the latter, he’s been better than Fuentes this year, and it’s not like he’s doing anything different that what he’s always done away from Wrigley. And yet I rarely see him mentioned in trade rumors. Weird.

Tigers

I don’t see them as sellers, though Inge is a moveable part for another player who could help more now. I have no clue how that works out, but Inge could be moved with lower end prospects for another bat or arm.

Doubt it

We’re probably going to retain Inge to start at Catcher next year as opposed to writing a big check to Pudge. If anyone gets traded, it’s Pudge to the Marlins.

by demondeaconsbaseball on Jul 22, 2008 6:36 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I don't see the Marlins taking on that salary...

Inge has also stated his distaste for not starting. As for the Marlins, they have Rabelo, Treanor, Baker… they’re all young, cost effective, and relatively unproven. I doubt they got for any players in trade….

They've expressed interest

It was on MLB Trade Rumors at the ASB… don’t have time to find the article now, can later…

mlbtraderumors

i trust that website about as far as i can throw it for information….they basically take a real story or rumor and embelish it or add to it to try to drive traffic….

not worrying about that story, just the site in general

Fair enough

I think it’s interesting and a good way to monitor the chatter going on in the sports world.

Course, I put it on my Google Reader, so I don’t contribute much to traffic. I think…

I don't understand how that works

Do sites really get nothing from people who have it on their RSS feeds?

I'm not sure

I’ve heard thats the case, but I dunno. I make sure to click on my favorite websites so they get the traffic though, just in case.

by demondeaconsbaseball on Jul 24, 2008 6:07 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

They don't really

All they do is publish every single rumor that pops up in every newspaper.Considering every team has a reporter who’s constantly convinced his team will pick up a Teixeira or whomever, this isn’t the best way to get reliable information. But they don’t claim that’s what they’re providing. What they do try to give, and what in my opinion they do give, is a comprehensive look at all of the rumors, true and false; maybe not the most useful site in the world, but kind of interesting

Mariners

Japanese ownership just insisted on signing Jojima to a 3-year extension. No way he goes anywhere.

I don’t see why the Reds would dump Encar, although I know they’ve had issues with him before he is still 2-3 years from FA and a good player

by nms on Jul 22, 2008 3:37 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Giants

I’m pretty certain that Brian Wilson won’t be going anywhere & he certainly isn’t on the trading block.

I’d imagine that the other three mentioned along with possibly Taschner are the ones we’ll be looking for offers for. I can’t see us trading Molina & Roberts is pretty much untradeable at the moment.

Agree

I just don’t see Brian Wilson getting traded.
I would add that Felipe Lopez, Christian Guzman, Paul LoDuca, and Johnny Estrada should not purchase large homes in the D.C area.
Funny as it sounds, I believe Pittsburgh is holding the markers in the game as teams wait to see if the price drops on Nady and Marte. This is classic Pgh as they played the same game with Kris Benson and Oliver Perez and took last hour deals for both. I would send Nady/Marte to Rays for Brignac +(perhaps Davis), then see if Dodgers would send an arm or two(Meloan +) for Jack Wilson. I think Bay is staying.

by ByANose on Jul 22, 2008 7:31 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Nationals trade

Outside of Guzman, why would anyone want those other players? They can either not hit, not stay healthy, or both.

by Lunkwill Fook on Jul 22, 2008 11:16 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

It doesn't appear Guzman is going anywhere with that 2 year extension...

I don’t see why any team would want any of the Nats spare parts. Most are overpriced as is.

As for Guzman, he was the worst hitting regular in the MLB for quite a few seasons prior this one. I doubt he continues this next year or the year after…

Huh?

Wilson is a reliever who is getting extremely lucky with saves. To many teams he has good value. I’m sure some idiot would take Wilson based on his saves and All-Star appearance. Guzman and Lopez are possibilities to be dealt, but Estrade and Lo Duce aren’t going anywhere, because no one wants either.

by METSMETSMETS on Jul 22, 2008 1:02 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Wilson’s poor WHIP and ERA will discourage some teams, I would think. The Giants may believe they wouldn’t be able to get fair value in return for him. Wilson has great stuff, a strong work ethic, and should only improve as he adjusts to his role. He is in excellent shape, and should hold up for many years. I think it’s unlikely another team would be willing to give up an impact player for him.

yeah

thanks for being a voice of reason there.

If Wilson is traded for it is because he is a talented arm, not his inflated save #s

by nms on Jul 22, 2008 3:48 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Saves

Regardless of the saves, someone would want him for his power arm as a setup man. The question is: do the Giants demand closer value for him?

by Lunkwill Fook on Jul 22, 2008 4:03 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I believe the Giants think Hinshaw is their future closer

this obviously makes Wilson expendable, especially while his value is at the highest. I doubt they get too much for him though…

I know Wilson has good value to many teams, he’s a very good reliever who’s young & cheap. The Giants FO aren’t going to trade him though as they want to keep all the good, young pitching we have.

You'd have to assume

that the Rays are shopping Gomes and Ruggiano and looking for some relief pitching.

by METSMETSMETS on Jul 22, 2008 12:53 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Depends what they can get

The only reason Gomes isn’t already long-gone is because he’s right-handed.

Houston buyers?

I don’t quite know how to react to this.
One of the most frustrating teams out there.

I don't get it either

They get a guy who has almost a 1.2 career HR/9; he’ll face more righties, and combined with his HR tendencies, I’d definitely bring a glove if he’s starting and I’m in the Crawford Boxes.

12 back in the division, 10 in the wild card. Bad move.

Will be tough to unload Chavez, given his big contract and injury problems. Street and Crosby I can see heading to the Dodgers, Embree to the Cardinals.

Orioles

Orioles aren’t going to be trading Roberts or Mora…

If anyone, it’s Payton, Bradford, and Ramon Hernandez.

by maneatingbaby on Jul 23, 2008 7:54 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Roberts is a maybe, only if MacPhail gets what he wants. Mora they’d like to trade, but its unlikely he’ll waive his no trade clause except for Philly or DC.

I’m hoping they are smart and trade George Sherrill while his value is at its highest.

by edsachs1 on Jul 23, 2008 2:27 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I'd see a Mora trade

in the making—his numbers are just good enough to make him expendable. The Dodgers may be a good fit in a deal for Mora.

by METSMETSMETS on Jul 24, 2008 1:51 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

no trade clause

Mora has a no trade clause, that he is unlikely to waive because he wants to keep his family in the area. So unless Washington or Philadelphia want him, he’s going to be an Oriole for the remainder of his contract.

the list

was certainly not meant to be exclusive…and the names on there are guys that have been mentioned via one sports news service or podcast or another that i’ve listened to in the last few weeks….there are plenty more that will be on the market, and i’m sure some of those guys mentioned won’t bring the value needed to seriously be available….but they’re all guys who are reportedly having teams make offers for….

Trades

Pretend possibles:

Giants OF Randy Winn to the Royals in exchange for RHP Ramon Ramirez and 3B/OF Mark Teahen.

Indians UT Casey Blake to the Dodgers in exchange for 3B Blake DeWitt and LHP Scott Elbert.

Mets RHP Aaron Heilman and RHP Brant Rustich to the Rays in exchange for OF Justin Ruggiano and 1B/OF Dan Johnson

Rays OF Jonny Gomes to the A’s in exchange for RHP Dallas Braden

Rangers OF David Murphy and 3B Hank Blalock to Reds in exchange for RHP Bronson Arroyo and 3B Edwin Encarnacion

Total dreams:

Mariners LHP Erik Bedard and OF Raul Ibanez to the Cardinals in exchange for OF Ryan Ludwick, SS Brendan Ryan and RHP Chris Perez

Giants RHP Matt Cain to the Pirates in exchange for OF Jason Bay and 1B/OF Xavier Nady (Brian Sabean, remember.)

um....

honestly….i don’t see how any of these go down…..maybe with the exception of gomes….

nady to the yanks

The Pirates will get Jose Tabata, Ross Ohlendorf and two other prospects from the Yankees for Xavier Nady and Damaso Marte, SI.com’s Jon Heyman reports.
Pittsburgh came down off its initial price tag an awful long way then. Tabata still has very exciting potential and is incredibly young, but his wrist problem are scary and he’s looking like a headcase. Ohlendorf has never been a good bet to develop into anything more than a sixth- and seventh-inning guy. Pitcher Phil Coke is also believed to be in the deal, and he’s a true long shot to help.

Manny on the move?

Any chance this happens or are we just going through the annual Manny talk. It would be extremely hard to replace that bat behind Ortiz in the line-up.

Ripken.....thanks for the memories...

by bodyiq on Jul 27, 2008 8:46 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Hmm

.298/.398/.524 with an OPS+ of 140 is tough to replace. But if Boston wanted to get rid of him and his attitude problem, Adam Dunn’s .234/.384/.544 and OPS+ of 138 would come close.

I’d still keep him and just not pick up his option if he’s being a pain in the ass.
