No-No for Porcello
A bit misleading of a title, I will admit. Rick Porcello contributed to a seven inning no hitter against the St. Lucie Mets.
His line:
| 5.0 | 0 | 1 | 1 | 2 | 1 | 0 | 2.91 |
Contributing to the no hitter were 2008 draftees Rob Weinhardt (10th rd) with 2 strikeouts and Cody Satterwhite (2nd round) with 1 strikeout. Both Weinhardt and Satterwhite pitched a scoreless inning.
Here's the box if anyone's interested.
Is this a sign that the Tigers are doing well in the quest to rebuild their farm system?

Yeah
But Porcello can’t throw his strikeout pitch.
Just something to consider.

Porcello
Didn’t someone post an article on this site a month or two ago where Porcello admitted he is not a strikeout pitcher, but more of a groundball inducing pitcher? I didn’t read the article itself, but I thought someone posted that he had said that.

Porcello
Porcello told Jon Matlack the Tigers pitching instructor that he is more of a 92-94 sinker pitcher than a 95-96 flamethrower. I think what he really meant is that he realizes hes a better pitcher by taking a little off and adding some sink to it, hes got the 95-96 ready if he needs it.
Lack of strikeouts dont really worry me because his hammer curve (which is his best pitch) has been shelved and he is still young for Hi-A. I think it actually says a lot about his stuff that batters are able to make contact against him but still arent able to do anything with it (.235 BAA).

yeah
it seems like he has already made the move that many young flamethrowers don’t learn til they are in the bigs. You can’t blow the ball by everyone in MLB, not only are the hitters often too good to strikeout you wouldn’t pitch many innings if you tried to do that. Too much work, too many pitches. You do have to make sure when they make contact it is weak.

Don't forget
Porcello is only 18 or 19. He may still be able to add a little juice onto that fastball, so he could land up with a 95 mph sinking pitch.

Neither did Cahill last year
and he struckout nearly 1 per inning.

Nothing
to really do with Porcello, but I think there was a combined like 5 hits in that double header..
In game 1 Micheal Antonini threw a CG (7 IP) 1 hitter while striking out 7 batters for the Mets, and then in game two the Mets got no hit.

St. Lucie has a terrible team. So that has a little to do with it.
