Eric Hurley To Texas

http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20080609&content_id=413285&vkey=news_milb&fext=.jsp

ARLINGTON -- The Rangers plan to bring up Eric Hurley from Triple-A Oklahoma to fill the fifth spot in their starting rotation. Hurley will make his debut for Texas on Thursday at Kansas City.

It looks like Hurley is on his way up.  He started the season very poorly as far as HR's and earned runs go.  His strike out numbers have been up this year and he is doing a pretty good job of not handing out a ton of free passes.

I thought I read somewhere that his velocity was down this year.  I don't know if there is any truth to that, or if it was just an April thing.

I am looking forward to him pitching personally.  I think if he can learn to keep the ball park he can still be a #2 type pitcher.

What are your thoughts.

I'm not confident

that Hurley can keep the ball in the park.

Same

But even with his propensity for the home run ball I still think he’s going to be a solid #2 pitcher with the potential to eat up 200+ innings each year.

Great piece on BTiA by the way. I love what we got cookin’ in Clinton.

Yikes

If you are sitting in the bleachers in Arlington you better keep your eyes open.

Heh

If you are sitting in the bleachers at the Ballpark in Arlington you should already know to keep your eyes open. Seeing our pitchers give up bombs is nothing new to us. I’m just hoping that Hurley walks few and K’s many so he can limit the damage done by the homers.

He should be decent

Not spectacular, but decent. More back-end than front-end of the rotation kind of guy. Maybe he turns into Chris Young (the Not-In-PETCO version) if things go well.
