hmmpphh
had to remind myself where Smoltzy came from. Still, he’ll be one of those guys that in my mind played his whole career for one team. Mad Props to Smoltz.
The Giants need to sign Harry Doyle.

Awesome....
Great batters there, and a pretty solid rotation. Bullpen is a little suspect though. I guess this just goes to show how solid Atlanta drafts and the type of international player they sign. Also, I think this shows that they have a pretty good coaching group in the minors since they are able to get so many players to reach their ceilings, or close to it.
There is a reason they are consistently a top rated farm system.

hmmmm
did not mccann overtake catcher by the end of 2005?
by biggentleben on Jul 1, 2008 12:57 AM EDT 0 recs
True
But for being McCann’s first year in the bigs, and since Lopez (for Baltimore) still had a decent offensive season (‘decent’ being the operative word by his standards – he was still an above average offensive catcher) I had Lopez as the starter, though in this hypothetical roster they probably would’ve split time close to 50/50.

interesting to note
easily the weakest part of that roster is the part of the team that consistently kept them from winning 3-4 more world series during their run….the bullpen….

hm
Chen obviously wouldn’t have won a rotation spot on the real Braves but if you are doing this based off 2005 production from the various players Bruce Chen would have been in the rotation

Chen
That’s why I inserted him as a long reliever/swingman type – he could have been a back end starter on most teams, but due to the logjam in the rotation, I thought he fit best in the bullpen. Of course, the same thing could have been said about Darrell May or Horacio Ramirez, but that’s why I started to include the players who didn’t quite make the cut, because some roster spots could be almost interchangeable.

no
my point was that his 2005 pitching quality, as a starter, was very good and, if you go off that, he would have been in the rotation for this team

Thanks
I just started it as a way to put to paper some ‘hypothetical’ teams I was thinking of and to also generate discussion on the francshise’s ability to scout/develop talent, but it looks like I may end up doing one for every team now. Not that I mind at all, it’s a labor of love for me.

I agree....
this is an interesting exercise. It would be interesting if someone could put these rosters through a simulation and see how it comes out.

Couldn't you
put Wainwright at closer? Though it would kinda be wasting his abilities, but he might have been the best option.
