A's reach deal for Michel Inoa for 4.25 Million
According to Baseball America the agent for the Dominican pitcher has told teams deal is place and no need to contact him anymore as signing will be announced this week.

Definetely a BIG signing for the "rebuilding" of the farm system and puts the A's as major players in the international market.
Will this kid duplicate the success of King Felix or fall like many other young players? Only time will tell

hmm
that is a lot of effing money for a 16 year old kid.
thats about it.
hypothetically…his “conservative” time table is what? 5 years?...6 years?
Thats a long time to see a ROI on that large sum of money.

Inoa
I read in the espndeportes forum that he is actually 19 or 20, this was posted by a guy who supposedly played with him.

Speculation
There’s going to be speculation like that about almost every latin signing. I’d venture to say that the interested MLB teams have done their due diligence, so we should assume the reported info is correct until proof comes out claiming otherwise.

As an A's fan I cant help but be excited.
This makes up for Weeks at #12 :)
When will then be now? Soon.

I will temper myself by saying ill believe it on the 2nd...
It would be a great signing for the A’s, but until its a proven fact im not getting overly excited either way

I'd assume BA is a good source.

does this effect their draft budget?
thats a huge chunk of money that could go towards hunter/elgie/warren/coleman/maronde/guilmet etc
if this the start they are willing to spend more $$ a huge boost towards an already top 5 farm system

No
Because they cut their payroll by half this year from about 80 million to about 40 million.
Unlike certain other teams cough Rays cough that pocket the money when they reduce payroll, the A’s have been putting the money into their minor league infrastructure (increased local and foreign scouting and increased organization in foreign countries) and throwing extra money to convince “hard sign” players like Rashun Dixon to sign.
Sometimes life will strike you out on a curve ball and the only choice you have is to flip off the umpire and walk to first base anyway.

technically
he has not signed yet as he cannot sign until July 2nd..but he may have reached an agreement with them.
Certainly an odd signing for the As after always being conservative in the past.
Being as athletics as he is, with already a 93/94 FB..he will probably be ready by the time he is 21.

I’d rather sign 7-8 IFA’s for 600K then 1 for 4.25 million.
The odds of success are much better that way as well.

Generally true
but if we really are dealing with a once-in-a-generation guy then all bets are off.
Kind of how I wouldn't want to pick a HSer in the top 10 of the NBA draft but when a guy like Garnett or LeBron comes along you know he is special and all bets are off

It should have read…

Thankfully, that's exactly what they also did
They signed five guys in February and a group of three earlier in the winter that included Arnold Leon, who’s had a nifty run in Stockton this year.
RagingHarden: Yeah if you get 20 starts out of me I'll be shocked. Like, I'll wreck my drawers.

I'm assuming he ranks
at the top of their system. I guess it depends on if Carlos Gonzalez still qualifies at the end of the year, but even then, upside wise, the reports seem to suggest Inoa is in another league. I love Brett Anderson, but upside doesn’t seem to match the reports on Inoa.

Nice effort...
I like the list, and the effort you put in to make it.
But how can someone who has never throw a professional pitch, never been seen by anyone really, be rated over Gio in your mind?
Remember: baseball guys... baseball...

Ceiling.
I’m no Scouting / Prospect professional. I just put together a quick list. But from all reports, Inoa’s ceiling is Ridiculous.

Well, he CAN be
but I agree with you, that it’s a pretty risky statement

Leon?
My list of SP prospects would go as follows:
Cahill
Anderson
Gio
Inoa
Leon
Simmons
Mazzaro
Rodriguez
DLS
Italiano
If you’re including RP, Sam Demel has to be on there somewhere. His numbers this year, especially after his first couple of outings, are Gossage-like.
