Wilmer Flores... I know its early but jeez
Wilmer Flores is 16 years old (SS) playing in the Appalacian League where the average age is around 20 years old. The kid is currently hitting 400 with 3 homers, 3 doubles, 1 triple and 1 steal in 50 abs.... incredibly early but this is quite an amazing start for any 16 year old. He is 6'3 175 and likely will be moved off of SS for various reasons.... Reyes, his size and his glove... Any thoughts on him?

Gotta love a kid who wears braces
Flores certainly has been impressive in a short sampling and the Mets have another youngster Jefrey Marte that they are high on too. Theirs not a whole lot you can say about him because he is so young and the numbers are in such a short sampling but he is definitly someone to watch.

Another kid to keep an eye on....
Is Flores’s teammate in Stefan Welch from Australia. He’s older in that he’s already 19 years old but is hitting an ungodly .400/.451/.622 in 45 AB so far. One thing Minaya does very well is scout overseas.

went deep
last night as well.
no walks as of yet, but 1 386/410/632 line is an awfully auspicious start
i’m also impressed by Kelvin De Leon’s start for the DSL Yankees; 17 years old, in a less competitive league, and not the cartoon-like numbers of Flores, but like Flores he got three stars from Goldstein on tools alone (no performance at that point), and is starting off with a 311/420/527 line in 19 games. what is encouraging is that it at least LOOKS like some decent plate discipline is part of his skill set as a 17 year old, with 10 walks and 20 k’s in his first 84 plate appearances.
