Suggestions
Taking suggestions for coverage..
I didn't realize that someone like Trevor Cahill could generate such vitriol...geez guys, he's a pitching prospect, not Friedrich Nietzsche...I didn't expect a post about Cahill to generate such passsionate disagreement. To quote a great man, "Settle down, Beavis."
Anyway, here is a thread for suggestions.

How about
Checkin’ In On Mike Pelfrey
The discussion on Pelfrey seemed to reach out to a lot of people in the fan post section. Seeing how you got to see Pelfrey pitch in college (with success) you can give us your opinion on him now that he’s pitching with SOME success.

especially the younger guys
that are just now debuting or breaking through, like Kelvin De Leon, Wilmer Flores, Michael Pineda, Kennil Gomez, Julio Teheren, Juan Silverio, etc

Organizational Review of 2006 Draft
It is time to review the 2006 draft for each organization and hand out some grades. It is now the two year mark and I woud really like to see the success of each team evaluated.
by sdtribefan on Jun 26, 2008 12:24 PM EDT 0 recs
Say what?
The 2006 draft?
Half the players from that draft are still in A-ball.

Are you saying that is a bad thing?
Most of the Indians’ college players who have not been injured are anywhere between AAA and HiA. Nearly all of the HS prospects are in full season. What better time to evaluate a draft? It’s easy when all the players have been around for six years and you can second guess. I am guessing you don’t believe that A-ball has prospects.

What on God's green earth are you talking about?
Of course A-ball has prospects. We have no clue, however, what they are going to do in the major leagues.

Well, that's odd because nearly 50%
of the prospects in BA’s prospect handbook are at A-ball or lower and they don’t seem to have a problem projecting major league potential. I haven’t checked but I suspect those numbers are similar for John. So, what on God’s green earth are you talking about?

How can you review a draft
when you don’t have a fucking clue what half the players in it are going to do at the MLB level?
It’s a complete waste of time. It’s like predicting who’s going to win the MVP award in mid-April.

Hey, that is what this blog is all about.
Why waste time evaluating guys at AAA? Your Prospects for the majors come from AA and A-ball. AAA is finishing school for prospects or where has beens and never was’s go to pasture. Take a look at John’s book! Little is said about AAA in comparison to the lower leagues. By this time, there is more than enough history to evaluate the chances of anyone in the 2006 draft of making the majors. That’s what John does!

Retros
I really love prospect retrospectives. Five suggest profiles:
1. Mariano Rivera
2. Manny Ramirez
3. Chipper Jones
4. Billy Wagner
5. A hypothetical look at Ichiro
Also, looks at flopped prospects like Ryan Anderson or Cory Patterson or even the infamous Brad Komminsk.

ups and downs?
You mean, home games and road games.
He’s pitching great on balance (3rd in the Cal Leage in FIP, which even with his home park is quite an accomplishment for a teenager), but his home/road split is extreme even for a San Jose pitcher, and very odd: SJ notably holds down HR, but on the road Alderson is giving up walks and hits.

Minor League All-Stars:
Which prospects (regardless of class) are looking like All-Stars as the Major League season reaches it’s mid-point?
Factors to consider include:
-overall production (basic stats)
-relative production (to league/age/etc.)
-prospect status (rising/falling)

I made a fanpost...
Suggesting an item for the schedule. I will reiterate here as well.
I would love to see write up on a list of guys who have most improved their prospect status this year. Guys like Cahill, Mike Stanton, Michael Bowden, Ben Revere, Hellickson, etc.

I like looking at guys whose stock has improved this first half too. Hellickson and Bowden for sure-when do they make the jump?
What about a “Is there any hope for Adam Miller to be a dominate starter”? With the emergence of Laffey, Carmona on the DL, and rumors of CC bolting, Miller was in a great place to make a move. Now what?

Retrospective: Josh Johnson
He’s almost back from TJ surgery, might be a good time to revisit where he came from and what his upside looks like going forward.
I’m also a fan of the “Top ## prospects of tomorrow” approach. I recognize that there isn’t really enough data to say anything about most of the super young guys that are debuting now, but maybe just a ‘getting to know them’ kind of post would be good?

Jess Todd
The kid has been absolutely phenomenal in his first full year of Pro Ball, already destroying AA. Struck out 5 hitters in his 2 innings of work in the Texas League ASG.

Suggestion...
Hi John,
With the trade deadline coming up, I think it would be great to get your perspective on some of the rumored trades, etc., and the prospects potentially involved. In particular, I’m interested in who might have the goods to acquire Sabathia. Of the rumored possible teams (NYY, Cubs, Mil, LAD, StL, Phil, Bos, Rays, Tex), who could put together the best packages? who would Sabathia help th most – even as a rental (flags fly forever)? And other trades would be equally interesting – would Dunn help someone? How about Bedard? Should Texas deal Bradley? What is Atkins worth? How about a bullpen arm like Rauch or Betencourt or Shields (would anybody fetch what Linebrink went for last year). You have a much better handle on all of the different systems and prospects, so I think your analysis would be great.

Phillies Prospects
I rarely see anything on any of the Phillies Prospects.
I’d love to see a piece on Lou Marson, who could be our MLB catcher next year and a Sept. callup this season.
Also, pieces on Carlos Carrasco and Adrian Cardenas would be nice to see about.
