Who is the better OF prospect?
Who is the better prospect:
1. Andrew Lambo, LAD - Currently playing for Great Lakes in Class A. He's hitting .280 avg/.338 obp/ .454 slg. I love how the Dodgers progress their prospects (other than LaRoche), Of course there are quite a few good young OF's in that system though. Lambo has shown some pretty good power potential.
2. Cedric Hunter, SD - Currently playing for Lake Elsinore in Hi A. Hitting .304 avg/ .365 obp/ .402 slg. I love his contact rates and bb/k, but he hasn't shown the ability to hit for power or steal bases, so he could be a .300+ avg kind of guy, with little power and speed (maybe a Howie Kendrick in the OF).
They're both OF prospects, and I think Lambo has the higher ceiling because he actually has shown power, but who has the better combination of ceiling+likelihood of reaching it?

Lambo
...and by the way, Kendrick will hit for a LOT of power before he’s done. If he can ever stay freaking healthy that is :-)
I also believe that if a guy has a higher ceiling he has, by definition, a higher chance of reaching it unless there is an obvious circumstance that impedes him… drug addiction, can’t stay out of jail, terminal illness… something like that.
Lambo looks like a better talent so he will naturally have a higher chance of reaching it.

?
Not sure why you’d say this…I’m not looking for an opinion on him.
The thread was clear and to the point.

I'm on the opposite end...
I fell Hunter is the better prospect. He hasn’t developed power like I thought he would, but I can see him hitting 15-20 HR in the MLB, peaking probably around 25. I’m very disappointed about his undeveloped running game. He should be a better base stealer, and I think that will develop. I like his ratios and percentages, and I think he can build on that.
Lambo, I think, will be a very solid player. Probably something like Ethier but with slightly more power. I think his average will be in the .265-.270 range in the MLB with a couple of random spikes.

I’ll take my chances with Hunter as well.

Enough about Kendrick
Kendrick has settled into being a decent big leaguer, but enough already. Put his bat in the outfield and it’s what, Shane Victorino? At best? Kendrick isn’t a bad player, but the years of hype were too much then and it’s too much now.

He's overrated because of the video-game numbers he put up
in some of those high-altitude tiny ballparks. Brandon Wood is the same.

I disagree about Kendrick...
I believe he can be a very good player at 2B. Injuries have held him back. The issue is that he plays 2B not OF and is a valuable contributor when healthy. The years of hype were justified due to his numbers. He has great bat control, a very discerned batting eye, and has the talent to be a very good player. Rather than saying he’s Victorino at his best, I believe he can approach the realm of a 15-20 homer 2B who can compete for batting titles if healthy. He’s not going to steal 35+ bases like Victorino, but he’ll get 15-25 if he can stay healthy. I guess my point is that he’s not Victorino, that’s a bad comp. As for being overrated, it’s difficult to overrate someone who has talent but has been curtailed by the injury bug (many of them utterly and completely fluke injuries). Frankly, I’m a fan of Kendrick’s, and I believe that he’ll put together stellar numbers for a 2B if he can remain healthy…
