team usa
i'm a little confused. Why are there 2 team USA's? theres the college one and then theres the one Davey Johnson is coaching. is the college one just to get freshman, sophomore hitters at bats during the summer?
on a side note, stephen strasburg was behind home plate sitting in the bleachers charting pitches tonight. Got to meet him and he seemed like a nice guy. Wish he was pitching though. That catcher from Indiana was having a hard time behind the pate tonight

er
he is locked in AGAINST the NECBL pitching… obviously he is playing for Team USA and Team USA isn’t in the NECBL.. they are just playing some tuneups vs. those teams. didn’t want that to sound as if i was saying Davis or Team USA was in the NECBL

There are 6 Team USA
Professional – Olympic team, comprised of pro players not on an MLB active roster.
National Team – Collegiate players
18U National – Ages 18 and under; best HS players
16U National – 16 and under
14U National – 14 and under
Womens Team

cape cod
why would a player like Strasburg be playing here and not in cape cod?

To try to get on the Olympic squad is my guess.

it is just as good
if not better for pro prospects, as evidenced by having not just Strasburg but many other top draft prospects on the roster and invite list.
Scouts always see Team USA a ton every year, it is usually the best college summer team in the country, so he isn’t losing any scouting buzz (not that he needs any).. if anything he would be gaining some exposure (if that is even possible for a guy like him)
Plus since many of the best in the country try out and only 22 make the squad it is very, very prestigious.
Hell, even getting invited to tryout is a major honor.
Furthermore, instead of just traveling the Cape, players get to go to Latin America, Europe and Asia.. places they probably have never been and might not ever go to otherwise.
Also, it has got to be a lot more exciting to put on your country’s jersey and try to win for your country than for the pride of the town of Cotuit.
Guys like Ryan Zimmerman, Justin Smoak, Alex Gordon, Verlander, Jered Weaver, Pedroia and many more high-picks/future MLBers have played for Team USA.
