Am I an idiot? Lowrie and Belisle for Rich Hill and Maxwell
Not in general, in this specific case...lol
I dealt Jed Lowrie and Matt Belisle for Rich Hill and Justin Maxwell
I have never asked for an opinion on a trade before but I'm curious to see what people think.
I'm in a 24 team DMB league and am a contender, needed a Lefty starter. We keep the players from year to year (20 plus 5 aaa players).
I figured I'd get some support onhere since most only talk shit about Lowrie. Personally, I really like him but I look at it like this...
Hill might help us win a playoff series or a championship this year, Lowrei AND Hill wont give me much next, and if Hill turns it around in 2009 he could end up being as good a big leaguer (or better) than Lowrie over the next 6-7-8 years... not high on Belisle at all...Maxwell has shown some glimpses in AA this year and could be the CF in Washiungton next year.
Of course Rich Hill was completely destroyed at Iowa tonight. I made the deal before that start. Any insight into what is wrong with the guy? I know he has complicated mechanics but I still have to figure he isnt washed up at age 28 dont I? Do you think he'll bounce back in 2009?

For your team...
I think you had to do to stay competitive this year. I am in a DMB League too, and I know Lowrie is a nice player to have this year. Three positions and has some pretty solid numbers. I actually traded Hill this past offseason because I was looking to get more GB% oriented with my staff, so I am not as familiar with his sim numbers this year. I do know he has been up and down on the sim though. Still a very capable #3 or #4 SP.
I think this trade works out even. The upside you lost in Lowrie (I am one of the believers) you gained in Maxwell. Giving up Belisle I think is fine because I don’t see him every becoming very useful on the sim.
Seems like a pretty even trade.

Thanks Cutter
Wow, you really think Maxwell has as much upside as Lowrie? You may be right. I was given a choice of the other guys AAA players (except eric Hurley, who I sorta like but he was REALLY high on)...Maxwell, Lillibridge, Kevin Mellilo, so that was a no-brainer but I DO like some things about Maxwell…good kid, debuted well in bigs last year, athletic, and his average (.233) in AA is covering some real progress taking pitches this season. 24 in AA ain’t great and he’s no sure thing with the bat either but I like him some.

Well...
I don’t think they have the same amount of upside, or maybe they do if Maxwell becomes a power bat. I definitely think Lowrie has a higher floor though. Belisle though has no real upside in my opinion.

I dont know why I care what anybody thinks all of a sudden. Just thought Id try on “baseball insecurity” and see what it feels like.

While we're on the subject of idiot trades...
Would it be stupid for me to deal Brandon Webb for Justin Verlander? I’m dominating pitching in my league, but if Webb is fading, I should probably replace him with a rising ace like JV. At least that’s my thought process…

I'd have to agree...
,,,with Mr. Texas heat here. The talented Mr. Verlander WISHES he could up-and-come up to the level of the great Brandon Webb.
Don’t do that. You’ll thank us later.

nah
disagree dude. Have you seen Verlanders numbers over the last month or two?
I think they are very close. Webb is experiencing a dead arm. But should be fine. Also, his contract was bothering him or he wouldn’t have killed the talks. I like him going forward. But I really like Verlander as well.

oh, and about the deal
if it was real baseball I’d be chastising you. Lowrie is awesome. More of a Pedroia awesome that doesn’t translate to fanstasy ball. He will probably be slightly above average for many years at 2B that is awesome for a cheap solution. And with great OBP. But in fantasy not so hot.
Hill on the other hand may be done. He might help. These types of guys I’d rather pick up on the waiver wire.
IMO there is always one or two owners that will love the prospect beyond the actual value. Especially when they are in the minors and can’t fail yet. I prefer to wait until the right situation when the value of the player and the time one of these owners wants this player -> then quickly pull the plug for an established guy.

Thats what I do!
I just ade a deal that was essentially Matt LaPorta for Manny Ramirez as well. I wait til the market for a prospect is high (sometimes absurdadly so) and get a solid player who will help me for the year and a half or so until the prospect will. i dont care who going to be good for 10 years. icare who will be good the next 4-5.
i agree i may not have gotten full value this time though for Lowrie. Oh well, win some lose some. There is always another deal, another draft.
