Update
Working on Father's Day didn't have much appeal, so I will get the Trevor Cahill thing up for you later this morning. We will do Jesus Montero tomorrow.
For Wednesday and the rest of the week, should we do more Controversial Prospects? If so, who?

Not a Controversial Prospect request, but an interesting topic of discussion nonetheless . . .
Prospect Retro: Ryan Theriot
I'm liking the Controversial Prospect
Is it possible, as a follow up, to do a controversial prospect retro? It would be a good benchmark for the controversial prospect of today.
My choices
Reid Brignac
Desmond Jennings
Austin Jackson
Matt Antonelli

Good choices
I also think Matt Gamel, Angel Villalona and Colby Rasmus are pretty good/ contoversial propects right now as well. I second the above fella’s pick of Alcides Escobar also. I don’t know if he is controversial but is getting really good and has been kinda under-mentioned around here.
What about?
Ben Revere. He was considered an overdraft by the Twins but he has been tearing up the minors at a .400 clip. Also, he was the fastest player in his draft year.

Beyond the controversial prospects
What about Mock Draft v. Real Draft?
David Murphy
He’s not a prospect any more but I find him fascinating and wonder if he can possibly be as good as he has been.
Neftali Feliz
I’d love to see John’s opinion on this velocity guy.
Madison Bumgarner
Maybe “controversial” isn’t the right word for him, but I find his year somewhat (pleasantly) strange. He was supposed to be this super raw arm with no secondary stuff and shaky control, but his numbers would lead one to believe he’s quite polished. If he really is more polished, just how good of a prospect does that make him?
Response
Interesting note with Bumgarner’s performance. He’s been markedly better against RH batters than LH batters this year, which suggests that his breaking stuff (which you’d expect him to use more against lefties) may still be a work in progress. However, he was known to have the makings of a fair change, so perhaps he’s honing that into an interesting offering.
Is he polished? Whatever he’s throwing, he appears to be throwing it for strikes . . .of course, you could read that statline a number of different ways. The first is as you suggested, that he’s rather polished, more so than many thought. A second is that he’s got command of a fastball with plus velocity, which he’s just throwing by inexperienced batters at this point without need for much else. If that’s the case, then he’s still rather raw. Another fine example of needing scouting to tell us about the stats.
How about a prospect smackdown between Hellickson and Cahill
I think that would be a good one.
Somne players I would like :
Greg Halman
Logan Morrison
Chris Tillman
Jordan Zimmerman
Aneury Rodriguez
