Around SBN: Knicks Beat Lakers With Familiar Strategy

Fantasy League with a FYPD

Rules are to make this league as realistic of a simulation of running a real franchise as we can.

The Basics:

• 35 Round 2008 First Year Player Draft
• 40 Man Roster draft consisting of anyone with any MLB playing time.
• 80 Man Minor league player draft
• 15 Man Free Agent Draft in the offseason of all unsigned minor league players and foreign free agents. The order for this will be decided by popular vote, either random or by best record first.

25 Man active rosters, 40 man major league roster.

Salaries based on draft order, signed to contracts. 100 mil hard cap.

I have 15 people who have said they are interested, 11 have joined and we need 20 to do it right.

Thanks,

Matt

As someone who has done this before

I STRONGLY suggest cutting the first year player draft down to about ten rounds. Believe me, it is very difficult to keep going on, no one knows anything about the players, and 99% of the guys past about ten rounds are nobodies.

FYPD length

You don’t have to draft all 35 if you don’t want to. You can trade them or forfeit them. I agree most of these guys are just organizational depth but sometimes they turn into something good(Mike Piazza, or on a lower leve, Dez Jennings). I want the rosters to be very deep so people can’t play the waiver wire to play week to week and pick up who is hot. I want people to develop players and hang on to them to build an actual team down to 5th OF’s and Util. players.
I love baseball and it gives me a connection to follow players in LoA, or rookie ball. Who else is excited Brandon Whiting has 25 steals already! I also have a player I like that was drafted in the 49th round this year so there are a few crazies like me out there who spend far too much time reading about baseball :)
I don’t expect everyone to be this way because the odds of hitting past the 10th round are slim but to me it’s fun.
