The Kershaw Decree
I just read about it yesterday on CBS Sportsline maybe someone closer to LA or Jacksonville can tell me more. I'm surprised nobody has posted anything about it yet. Looks like Clayton is going to pitch out of the bullpen for the next week or so to keep his innings down. They also want to limit his innings to just 25 per month while in the minors. So what do you guys think? Good idea, bad idea, don't care?

Maybe
Getting ready to preserve him for a playoff run? In general when a team is taking steps to keep a young pitchers innings down I’m on board…

Kershaw
there was an article about him in the LA times about possibly coming up to pitch in place of Esteban Loaiza who was recently placed on the DL. Kershaw pitched 1 inning in relief looking very good. The article also talked about how colleti was at kershaws: 6.2 IP 6 H 0 ER 1BB 5 K, and was real impressed, A call-up is in the future for this stud

150IP
he was at around 120IP last year so 150IP sounds about right. Even if he had 25 per for 6 months that would be 150. So if he is to be called up they would want to put his IP very low for a month or so hence the bullpen.
Obviously he is good enough to help now. But I think they not only have to protect his arm but hopefully he can spend a bit more time being more efficient with better control.

i'm not sure if its such a great idea
is it good for him to be constantly going from the rotation into the pen and vice virsa?

relief
it’s the new “top prospect” strategy. Limit innings while gaining experience. Kershaw will be taking the Chad Billingsley tour to the starting rotation. Probably make it mid-next year, but will be in LA long before that.

New?
Talk to Earl Weaver about that.

Or better yet...
Read Weaver On Strategy. Funny thing—many of the “new school stathead” strategies were being used 40 years ago by the best manager of all time.

But while he used them
A lot of baseball people thought he was nuts for doing so. And Weaver didn’t really have a lot of data to back it up. The “new ideas” might not be new ideas, but now they have some real proof to back them up.
Of course, even though it backs him up, if you told Weaver this I’m sure he’d say “F#$* you and your F#%#in’ proof!”

Response
There was an article on this on minorleaguebaseball.com a week or so ago, actually.
Basically it said that they want to keep his innings low enough to the point where he can be used out of the major league bullpen later in the year.

i actually believe
the “The Kershaw Decree” is the sequel to “The Bourne Ultimatum.”
