Around SBN: Dissecting Nick Diaz's Positive Drug Test

Luke Hughes and more

I have noticed the amazing tear that Luke Hughes (MIN) has been on to start the season. I was curious if anyone knew much about him and wether he is for real or not.

What do you all think his ceiling could be?

Other hot starters that i dont know much about

Luis Marte (DET)

Alfredo Figaro (DET)

Carlos Rosa (KC)

anyone know what these guys bring to the table?

Are they under the radar? or are they just starting out strong and will more than likely fade?

Rosa

Unlike those other two, Rosa had some mention entering 2008. He was a consensus top 10 prospect for the Royals across various lists including Sickels, BA, BP etc. I didn’t hear anything about the other two and BA didn’t list either in the Tigers top 30 for 2008. That doesn’t mean they aren’t good, but are probably less known at this point.

Rosa...

He’s a Tommy John suvivor….He’s always had the stuff, just not always the production…Took a huge step foward last year, and has continued that this year. Rosa’s got a 93-95 Fastball and a nice curveball.

Hughes

is from Australia. 23 years old. Hughes is 5’ 11” and 180-190 lbs. He is having an awesome year so far, but he has never played close to this before. His lines last year were .283/.356/.438, which isn’t terrible. He has already tied a career mark for HR’s in season with the 9 he has this year; in the first month or so. Hughes is a versitile player, playing 2B(mainly), 3B and CF. Decent fielder. Had less than a handfull of errors last year. This is his second year in AA. From what I have been reading, he played well for the Australian National Team last year and is kind of bringing that success to New Britain.

I don’t know what the Twins think his ceiling is. He has kind of came out of no where this year. Hopefully he can continue this hot streak because the Twins sure could use some help at 3B.

Check out his game log at 1st Inning

He has been playing a lot of LF lately. If he continues to hit like this it makes no difference, but a bat like that in the middle infield would be amazing

Relax, all right? Don't try to strike everybody out. Strikeouts are boring! Besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls - it's more democratic.
