Lincecum! OT
Ok today the Giants and Bucs played in Pgh, my hometown and I attended the game because it was a beautiful day, and as some of you know and some might not PNC Bank is very beautiful and usually quiet enough, and has enough vacancy to feel like your watching a Little League game. but anyway I was one of the first people in the gate then I realized that Timmy was here. Now I am a lifelong Bucs fan and that won't change, but Timmy is simply my favorite player ever. Anyway I go to the Giants dugout and watch them take BP . Now all the middle aged autograph sharks area all lined up down the first base line as the Giants stream back in, players like Jose Castillo(ex Buco) are hounded as Timmy runs around with the bucket picking up BP balls, as he makes his way to the dugout I didnt say a word, as he took a step down the dugout I called "Timmmmmmmy" he looked up and grinned and I thought he would keep walking ( i have heard hes a jerk) he stopped and motioned quickly for me to toss him my ball and marker I did he signed threw me back the ball, I was so pumped I grabbed the wet autograph and smeared it but as people began to see our exchange and came over and he tossed me my marker and disappeared. I was the only one in the park today, and the Pirates routed the Giants. But today was awesome I never thought I would feel this way about baseball anymore, I thought that adults didn't get butterfly's at the park but today was different. Today was something special.

Who told you Lincecum is a jerk? Sure, he may have emo hair, but that does not make him a jerk.

Hold on to that ball
It might prove to be the cure of some insidious disease some day.
Also, I thought I saw the visage of Tim Lincecum in my toast this morning.

Ageed
Tim Lincecum sold his soul to the devil for his rugged good looks and unparalleled pitching ability. Shortly after the transaction was finalized, Tim roundhouse kicked the devil in the face and took his soul back. The devil, who appreciates irony, couldn’t stay mad and admitted he should have seen it coming. They now play poker every second Wednesday of the month.

awesome
that is really cool.
i’ve got the attention of a few “prospects” once they were called up,
gathright, cantu, BJ, etc, but they were so busy taking grounders or waiting to hit that i didn’t really talk to them or get anything signed (not that i really care)
when a player is just called up i bet he’s so nervous and excited about playing in the majors that he wants to get as many reps, flys or grounders that he can, and maybe ignores the fans. some people probably take it as an insult, but it’s very understandable.
the best part of your story is that he went out of his way to make that connection and hook you up.

.....
I think another part of the problem is that players hate the autograph hounds that they know care nothing about the player but just want to market his signature. So the player has to balance being hospitable to his fans, which almost all players are, and trying not to get exploited by someone who bought a general admission ticket and left before the game started.

BJ
The only player I ever got an autograph from, and it was BJ way back right after he was drafted in high school. He was helping out at a local baseball camp that I was in. I was too scared to say anything at 10 and at 17 he didn’t really know what to say either.
I used a bad pen, but you can tell it’s him. Awesome, too. Just wish I had the balls back then to ask him some questions.
