Draft Coverage Suggestions
We are going to shift to 2008 draft coverage for the majority of May. We'll still do other things, but I want to concentrate a lot on the draft.
The highlight will be the 2008 Minor League Ball Mock Draft. I will be working out the exact details for that by the end of this week, Friday at the latest but probably sooner than that, perhaps as soon as tomorrow, so stay tuned on that.
I will be looking at the top players of course, but also some draft sleepers.
What other kinds of draft stuff would you like me to do?
Schedule:
Tuesday: My Early May Take on the Top College Hitters
Wednesday: Review of the 2001 Draft
Thursday: My Early May Take on the Top College Pitchers
Friday: Draft Sleepers

Good afternoon John
I would love to hear your opinion on notable names that may drop significantly due to the $$$ demands and where they could end up. It’s all speculation of course, but I’ve seen numerous mocks and its getting quite repetitive.
Thx!

Possible Draft Idea
I know it usually comes down to best player available and it’s hard to predict too far down in the draft, but I would love to see analysis of what we might look for from teams that have several picks in the first round or two, like the Mets.

Some ideas
John, you should try to have the same scouting directors picking for the same team as last year as much as possible. Also, it would be interesting to keep track of the prospects that each team has picked over the years.
I’m not sure if this is possible, but it would be nice if there were easily accessible links to all teams to avoid the clutter on the boards.
And, are you going to rank the HS pitchers and hitters too?

Farnsworth: Start the ship, Leela. Let's just steal the damn radar dish and get back to our own time.
Fry: But- But won't that change history?
Farnsworth: Oh, a lesson in not changing history from Mr. I'm-My-Own-Grandpa! Let's get the hell out of here already! Screw history!
Farnsworth: You mustn't interfere with the past! Don't do anything that affects anything. Unless it turns out you were supposed to do it. In which case, for the love of God don't not do it!
Fry: Got it.
Farnsworth: If for example you were to kill your grandfather, you'd cease to exist.
Fry: (gasps) But existing is basically all I do.

Team needs
A break down of what each team’s (or their system’s) needs are and which players may best fit that need.

Not all teams draft by need.
How about a rundown of which teams draft by need, which draft by BPA, and which have other apparent draft methods.

How about
high schoolers? You’ve got college guys scheduled, I’d like to read your take on the high school guys as well.

high school
I’ll look at the high school guys, with a couple of caveats.
1) I’ve seen a lot of the college guys, at least on TV, but that’s not true for the high school guys, so I can’t give any direct impressions
2) College stats are unreliable predictors of pro performance, but if you make some adjustments you can at least learn something about a player. At the high school level stats are pretty much worthless in terms of future projection.

2002 draft review
Dunno if it’s already been done or not, and the new search is confusing.

2008 draft
I was wondering if you would consider posting on some of the younger brothers/sons in this draft of current and former ball players and what would be the best location for these players to end up and what you think the chances might be in the future of making an impact in the majors?
Jemile Weeks, Lucus Grienke, Casey Kelly and Cutter Dyksta or any others I have left out.
as well as Howie Long’s son Kyle
thanks John
