Max Ramirez

Why isn't anyone talking about this guy and the absolutely incredible start he's off to. Today he went 3 for 5 with a home run and a double which raises his average to a cool 390. Does anyone have any opinions on what the Rangers should do with him, whether he stays at catcher, and if he can keep anything close to this up for the duration of the season.

Also - does anyone know what Chris Withrow's status is? When and where he'll begin this year?

Problem with Max

Is obviously his position. Does he play C? How does he jump Laird, Salty, and Teagarden? Can he play 1B? Is he more valuable than Chris Davis there? It’s just hard to see where he fits in…

He certainly can hit though…

Thing is

Texas needs 1B and DH worse than anything else. If he keeps hitting they can use him, regardless of position. My opinion/prediction is that he is best used as sort of super 1B/DH/C/3B utility guy who plays the majority of the time despite not playing a regular position.

You mean

like how they used Mike Lamb or how they’re using Duran now? I could see that. Out of the Laird, Salty, Teagarden, Ramirez group I’d really like to see them keep him, just for that utility and bat.

...and curse Sir Walter Raleigh, he was such a stupid git.

I like the idea of keeping him here as a 2.5/3rd string catcher,

mixed in with our open DH spot on a more daily basis. Is it possible T that we maybe see him in Arlington a lot sooner despite him being blocked at catcher right now at every level?

Teagarden

While Teagarden probably deserves a shot before Ramirez, Max is no kid and should get a shot if Teagarden falters. I think Ramirez is a safer call-up than Davis because of superior BB% and K%. Davis is almost a guarantee to strikeout once or twice in a game.

Maybe Texas can trade Ramirez for a starting pitcher… Volquez?

Ichiro, on facing Daisuke Matsuzaka for the first time: "I hope he arouses the fire that's dormant in the innermost recesses of my soul."

Youth and Position

As is, it doesn’t sound as if Maximillo is prepared to played catcher long term. He also doesn’t have a lot of athletic ability and lacks the power to be a legitimate corner infielder.

There’s no denying that he has the potential to be a great player, but I think there are too many questions about him right now.
