Who the hell is Luke Hughes?

So this guy is absolutely raking in New Britain for the Twins?  It looks like he plays all over the field.  He's got 9 home runs in April and is hitting in the high .300's.  He isn't in John's prospect book, and as far as I know hasn't been on radar as a prospect for the Twins.  Is this a flukey month? or a case of a guy putting it all together?  He's only 23, where did he come from?

I have been wondering the same thing...

There are a couple of middle infielders that were not formally prospects that are raking in AA.

The thing about Hughes though

He’s listed as a SS/2B/3B and has been getting most of his ab’s at 3rd and LF of late. Still great numbers, but if they were from a SS they would be phenomenal

Relax, all right? Don't try to strike everybody out. Strikeouts are boring! Besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls - it's more democratic.

Yeah

On BYTO we’ve been following him and trying to figure out that too, where did he come from?

background

He was signed out of Australia so didn’t have as much background in baseball as a US or latin prospect. Still, he has come out of nowhere in the Twins system for us Twins fans and the fact he plays a position that is a current system weakness makes him all the more amazing. Most Twins minor league fans believe he needs to keep it going another 30 to 60 days to really raise expecations.

He's

the best player on the Aussie National team over the last few year that i saw him.

Aussies

Tend to mature slower than other international players. He started coming on as a 22 year old last year, where he made the Eastern League All-Star game. But I think he turned a corner when he played for the Australian National Team last year. If he keeps this up, he’ll make John’s book next year, if not the Twins’ roster.

Just to add to

how far into obscurity he was, he wasn’t one of the 71 Twins prospects that BA listed in their prospect depth chart in their prospect handbook. Now, it’s not all that uncommon that a guy doesn’t appear on that list and then becomes a prospect the next year, but it’s pretty remarkable when it does happen.
