minor league game at wrigley field

Chicago Cubs Hall of Famer Ryne Sandberg will return to the Wrigley Field dugout as a minor league manager on Tuesday, July 29 when his Single-A Peoria Chiefs host the Kane County Cougars in an official Midwest League contest. The game will begin at 7:05 p.m. and is believed to be the first minor league contest in the ballpark's 94-year history.

this is really cool.
things like this should happen more often.
(has it?  maybe i've just missed it?)

i've never been to a minor league game, so it'll be a nice first one for me.
making the trip from minnesota.

anyone else going?

Lake Elsinore usually plays a game...

...in Petco Park as part of a ‘doubleheader’ thing with the Padres having one afterward, I believe. At the least, they’ve played there before.

I’ve tried contacting the A’s to suggest they do that with the Stockton Ports or Sacramento River Cats but I never heard anything from them about the idea.

Sac AND Stockton have nice parks than Oakland. I’ve watched games in all 3:)

The Giants need to sign Harry Doyle.

Red Sox

Have been doing it for a few years now. They do a doubleheader of two minor league affiliates when the Sox are out of town. Pawtucket/Lowell/Portland.

Really cheap tickets, too. Ive never been though.

Its a great idea every team should be doing. I know a couple Sox prospects, Buchholz and maybe Lowrie remarked that it put them at ease when they finally got called up. They didnt have quite the same amount of jitters they normally would.

Sox also do a program every offseason where they invite 20 or so top prospects and have them come to Fenway and do seminars on everything from tipping clubhouse guys, to dealing with the media. They usually have a couple vets and Varitek show up. That’s also a great idea. Yankees started copying that idea this season.

Red Sox

word, it seems like there could be a bunch of positive aspects about these sort of things,
and really no reason not to. well, other than money, maybe.

but the double headers, the offseason programs,
minor leaguers should be given a closer look at their future and eased into it.

plus it’s fun for us fans
