Kyle Davies
When do you think the Royals will give Kyle Davies another shot in the big leagues?
I really liked this kid when he came up with Atlanta a few years ago. After showing some decent stuff, I thought he could at least be a #2 and a very good pitcher for the Braves. (Sickels rated him a B+ and the number 2 prospect way back when for the Braves.)
He has gotten beaten up since and was traded to the Royals for Dotel. Now in AAA Omaha, it looks like he is doing pretty well: 6-2, 2.06 ERA, and a .228 BAA. I know his 37 ks to 20 BBs is not impressive, but why don't the Royals give him a chance. Except for Mr. Grienke, the rest of the Royal staff is not impressive. And even if you want to let youngins like Hochever or Bannister develop, Davies has to be better than Brett Tomko.
Am I crazy to think this? Especially when it looks like the Royals are going to have another steller season (21-32), you might as well give this guy a chance. He is still only 24.
What are your thoughts on Mr. Davies?

He was beat up pretty bad with the Braves to! :D
I liked Davies as well but his FB lacks movement and he just doesn’t have confidence. Davies is young and I hope he finds some success but I’ve giving up on him. I was torn on the move itself since Cordier was hurt but he has a lot of upside. I wished we got something a little safer but I wasn’t to upset to see Davies go as much as I never thought I’d say that.
On the note of Royals' pitching prospects
(Yeah, not so good of a segue – sorry, am curious and thought somebody here might also be interested)
What do you think of Ed Cegarra? John gave him only a C in the current year’s book, but since then he has broken out. At the age of 19 in A ball, he had 53:5 K/BB in 54 IP. In his first start at A+ ball he did less well, but still decently (6 innings, 6 hits, 1 walk, 1 strikeout, 3 ER). Is this progress for real or is it only illusory?
I'd be curious for an informed opinion as well
...though no one here probably knows much more than you or me. Solid FB velocity into the 90s and must be commanding it pretty well. Not sure how the secondary stuff is coming along, and that obviously tells the story at this point. I’m thinking that his status has to be helped by Cueto’s success (RH starter with a small frame).

Haven't heard more than that...
Fastball low 90’s, curve, and change. That was last summer, no updated scouting report beyond that.
