Revere vs. Bourjos
I'm in a ten-team keeper league with eight spots for minor leaguers.
Seven spots are filled with Trevor Cahill, Andrew McCutchen, Jake McGee, Tommy Hanson, Todd Frazier, Michael Burgess and Chris Davis.
I want to get another speedy outfielder. Currently my eighth spot is Jordan Schafer, but I am probably trading him sometime this week. McCutchen is going to fetch a guy I can use this season in my rotation, so I am trying to replace his speed (also due to the fact that I traded Ellsbury and Cueto for Matt Holliday last week...going for it all).
Who is the better option, Ben Revere or Peter Bourjos? Or, if you have a better idea than those two, list it please.

Drop Hanson?
Why would you drop Hanson? He came into the year highly rated and has done very well this year. Don’t be decieved by his AA stats. He had one atrocious outing. His other two outings combing four 11.1 inn 11 hits 4er 6bb 9k’s. Granted that is not great but it is not bad. I would say it is a little early to be giving up on him.
Don’t be deceived by his A+ stats.
He was old for the league, is a fly ball pitcher, and I don’t expect much success from him in the future.
:D
You really do like this kid don’t you sully? I can’t imagine giving someone advice to drop a pitcher with the value Hanson might have for a guy the majority of his league has never heard of. That just doesn’t seem like a smart fantasy baseball move to make unless it’s just a really deep league. I mean there has to be someone with more value in a 10 team keeper league with only 8 spots then Halman. If nothing else, add Hanson to McCutchen in a deal and then pick someone else up but Halman isn’t a top 80 prospect in my book (if I had one). I’m not sure he would be in the top 150 yet but I obviously don’t like him as much as you do.
Don't be deceived by one bad start at AA...
Also don’t think flyball pitchers can’t pitch well in the majors…John Lackey and Chris Young do just fine. He has given up 1 homerun this year and pitched very well tonight. He is the same age as Jacob McGee and younger than Wade Davis…both at the same level as him. He will most likely be a top 30 prospect heading into next year.
Not Halman
Too many K’s and not enough walks will likely keep him from being a regular. How is Revere’s defense? I ask because Bourjos is supposed to be a gold glove quality centerfielder—add that to his basestealing abilities and the hitting he’s shown this year, and he looks like a guy who gives a manager multiple reasons to put him in the lineup every day.
Halman has 2 more walks than Bourjos.
And 30+ more strikeouts (doubling Bourjos). It’s the combination of high k/low walks that concerns me. Bourjos could stand to walk more, totally, but he’s also been a higher average type of hitter, and one that strikes out a lot less. To me, it’s more likely to see plate discipline develop within that skill set than to see a big toolsy guy both cut down on k’s and suddenly start to develop plate discipline.
It can happen, and I know your big boner for Halman is telling you that it will happen, but I have some skepticism. But, I’m also a huge Mariners fan and would love to see another toolsy OF emerge alongside Saunders.
to sully
halman could be promising one day, but for now i’ll pass on the .182/.234/.273 line and the 68% steal success rate so far in A-...no one’s gonna pick him up in the next year in my league, i’m pretty sure.

You do realize he was in Low-A to start last year, demoted to SS, where he MASHED.
Makes the big leap to A+ this year, where he is young for the league, and he is mashing there.
And also, I would question your comment about no one picking him up.
He’s been improving a ton, and his OPS is about .900 now. Just because you think people don’t know about him, doesn’t mean they don’t.
I’m finding it very surpising how it appears I’m the only one in the prospect world that likes this guy.
It isn’t like I dislike him I just don’t think it’s the right more for now. It isn’t like you found someone NOBODY knew about. BA had him 13 in the M’s system which was ranked 11th in baseball and McKamey gave him a 9E which is a 10% chance of reaching his potential of 30/30. Again I just think Hanson has to much value to make the move you suggested in a league where only 80 players are kept. I’m not saying he wont be more valuable in a fantasy league then someone like Hanson but I wouldn’t just drop him. If he has an open roster spot, I have no problem with him taking a chance on Halman.
no one in my league
has a clue who he is, i promise.

as for hanson...
he’s still striking out nine guys per nine innings in AA. it appears like he’s just struggling with walks. he’ll be fine.

for reference
here are the players currently owned, by team (mine are in the writeup). if there are some glaring omissions of players who you feel should be owned, list them…i guess the list so far looks like this
1) greg halman
players who are called up and qualify for ROY are allowed to be kept in minors for remainder of season, but the next season they must be brought up. if a player (i.e. clay buchholz) doesn’t qualify for ROY, he can be placed in the minors again.
