Around SBN: Newcastle Battle Injury Woes Ahead of Tottenham

MOD Dodgers 2.0

So with the draft only a few days away, I wanted to get a better idea of what people want to do with the first pick.

Some notes:

-Melville's velocity has been back up into the low to mid 90s, so I don't see him as being as much of a reach as a few weeks ago.

-Kelly has stated that he wants to play SS as a pro and probably wouldn't sign if he's taken as a RHP.

-Collier and Wallace may not be there, as the Nats are reportedly looking at Collier and the White Sox are looking at Wallace.

Chose Aaron Hicks as an OF, but would have no problem with Melville. I believe our coaching staff can help him return to last years mechanics, which would elevate his FB and return the bite to his CB.

Brett Lawrie

he is another guy that I am pretty high on and no longer believe he will last past the first round.

interesting note: he trains with russ martin in the offseason. im not saying that this is a reason to pick him but it is kind of interesting that they know eachother and are both canadian.

Hicks and Lawrie

I’m actually higher on Lawrie than I am on Hicks, as I’m just not convinced that Hicks will hit. Interesting that Lawrie trains with Russ.

Brett Lawrie

He would be an interesting pick as from all the reports I have seen/read his bat is very solid. The issue with him is position. He definitely will not be able to stick at SS and most places show him as a C/3B. I also saw one publication recently (forget which) that had a comment about him possibly being able to handle CF. Personally, I would love to be a fly on the wall in the Dodger Draft Room and hear the staff/scouting opinion of him as a 2B.

2nd

second base is lawrie’s position. he has a fast track bat. not kershaw fast but maybe 3-3.5 instead of 4.5 years to get to the majors. and second will be his best option.
