Eric Thames

It's rumored Thames tore his right quad last night against Santa Clara.  He is expected to be in surgery today and miss at least the next 6 weeks, likely ending his season.  I know John really likes the kid and was targeting him with one of his first round picks; does anyone think this will lower his draft stock enough to make him slide into round 2 or 3?  I think it's possible he is there at 60.

Unfortunate if true

However, I don’t think a quad injury will drop him too far given his track record.

what track record

Hes been known to have solid tools and he was a late round-pick after having a solid, not nothing special year, as an eligible-soph but “track record” is not a strength of his considering he was undrafted out of HS and 1 year of JC and hit 0 HRs and had a sub-800 OPS (granted, in pitchers conditions) last year.

Very good player, but not bc of his track record

semantics

I wasn’t implying a track record of consistently high batting numbers year in and year out; rather, a track record of a toolsy prospect with upside that finally showed some production this year. Having a quad injury at this point simply isn’t that big of a deal in terms of his draft status to teams that were already on him, which was my point.

It's about his arm

Perfect Game Crosschecker has him pegged at 49. BA has him ranked at 90.

Both rankings were before the injury. What’s holding back is his arm, his routes, and the likelihood that he is limited to LF. Sickels likes him in part due to his Curtis Granderson comp.

This year he is hitting a a par with the DH types (Wallace and Cooper). He’s got the range for LF and can even hold down CF while the regular CF is out for two weeks—if his arm will play.

Thames broke out last summer—Northwoods League POY as I recall.

Yeah honestly I haven’t been to high on him but my opinion doesn’t hold much weight. I figured it was a stretch for him to be a first round pick so with the injury, figured it might lower his draft stock a little. Deezle is right though, a hamstring isn’t a major injury and he should fully recover. We will see what happens.
