Triunfel is Suspended

Shortstop Carlos Triunfel, considered by some to be the best player in the Seattle minor league system, is serving an indefinite suspension and is not currently on the roster of the Mariners' High Desert team in the California League.

Mariner director of player development Greg Hunter confirmed Monday that Triunfel has been suspended for a violation of team rules and has been sent back to the Mariners' minor league complex in Peoria, Ariz. to serve out the duration of the suspension.

The Mariners aren't saying just what rules were broken, but this suspension has already lasted nine days, so it's apparently not a minor thing.

Triunfel, an 18-year-old signed out of Venezuela, hasn't played in a game since May 10 and Hunter said there was no set date for the suspension to be lifted.

Oops

Things just keep getting worse for the M’s. Hopefully it’ll finally cost Bavasi his job. The man has no right managing a shoe store let alone a major league ballclub.

supposedly its his 2nd run in with discipline issues, thus the long suspension.

the m’s are being very tight lipped about what he actually did, however its been hinted at that it was something verbal (not physical, or drugs) that occurred. the best info i heard was it was triunfel acting like an immature/ “stupid teenager” that got him into trouble.

sounds like the m’s want him to learn a lesson. i hope he does. and i also hope he’s back on a field soon, so he can get valuable development time he needs as well. sucks, because he was really starting to heat up after missing time with an injury early in the season….

He acting like such a teenager.

Oh wait, he is one. Maybe he shouldn’t have been in high A in the first place? I’d bet his struggles have something to do with his problems, whatever they may be.

why not high A?

On the field-wise high-A seems to be the right place for him this year after what he did last year.

As far as off-the-field stuff I don’t see why high-A would bring that out moreso than low-A would have. In either place he would have had to deal with dealing with teammates and obeying coaches. And it isn’t like High Desert is NYC. Fox Valley, WI… High Desert, CA… I don’t think either place is particularly full of distractions for a youngster

he’s back…3-4 with a double last night (4/21) for high desert. after an 11 day absence he resumes his tear- now at .439 over his last 10 games.
