PrintWe had severe thunderstorms and tornadoes around here last night, so I had my computer shut off all evening and didn't get back on to check things until this morning. And what do I find? A flamewar in progress, caused by one poster insulting another poster, a direct violation of board rules. As strange as it may seem, I do have other things to attend to sometimes, like a wife and children, and I can't monitor the board 24/7. We haven't had too many problems since the switchover in formats, but that changed last night.
I don't get people, I really don't. I was busy last night, I come back this morning and a stupid insulf flamewar has broken out.
I've banned the instigator, but I'm continually surprised about how immature and just generally stupid people can be. Grow up people.

OT: weather
how bad was it in Lawrence last night? Did you guys get hit hard by the winds that came through? I was stuck in basement from about 9:00-11:00.

We had a couple of supercells around in the evening, then a nasty squall line come through about 1 AM, tornado warning, etc. Lots of limbs down but not too bad, it was worse in Kansas City.

Why not give moderators the ability to delete threads?
And even suspend accounts? Then you don’t have to worry about policing the boards everyday. The most active members check many times a day, and can head a problem off before it grows into something worse. You could have 6-10 police, instead of trying to do it yourself.
I’m not active anymore for reasons like this one and the switch over, but just trying to help.

I have been on blogs and boards for 10 years and I have never seen such an outrageous post in all of my experience. I believe in second chances, but not for murder. What he did was the equivalent of murder in the blogosphere.

I don’t understand it. This is a FREE Site.
John is a well respected authority on minor leaguers. His site is FREE.
What worries me is that John will get tired of the BS, and say screw it, I don’t need this. Where would we all be if that happened. I check this site multiple times a day. I skip over the BS, and read with interest the good info posted here. Even the info I don’t agree with, is read with interest, as it is someone elses perspective, and there is potentially a nugget of good info there. I love some of the diaries, and can’t wait to see the new ones each day.
I’m an avid baseball fan, and absolutely love this site. I would have no problem paying for Johns information, as I pay for BA and SOMworld now, but this site is FREE.
John has better things to do, than waste his time on a FREE site, but his love of baseball, and the interaction with the mature community of fans, must be why he keeps coming back and hosting this site.
As John so well put it to offenders, Grow Up People.

I cannot believe that so many people RECOMMENDED last nights post. There is no way that it should have been a recommended fan diary and those who did so should be ashamed of themselves.

The fake account was probably a sock puppet of another user. A warning has been issued and bannings will result if this behavior doesn’t end now. I am sick to death of this BS.

I was in your hometown on Weds….It is always a bit surrealistic seeing Fogg Allen up close…It’s almost like seeing 1060 W. Addison.
Please ensure me that The Outhouse is still standing. A mecca there is on my bucket list and I have just never managed to make time to make the sojourn.

Thank you John for taking quick action here…. you pretty much acted as some of us predicted and took away the offenders when you had a chance. I want to take this opportunity to thank you for the site in general, and for its very reasonable price. Keep up the great work.

Cyber Alpha Dog Syndrome
I didn’t read all of this thread but this happens to every message board and blog site at one point or another. Just keep banning who needs to be banned. Eventually, this cyber-punk will get tired and move on to some other site that is making every attempt at becoming or maintaining a place in the vast universe of cyberspace. I found this site near a month ago and I like this site. I enjoy reading about minor/prospects in this format. It has become a main stop when I evaluate talent for my fantasy team’s farm system.
