Sergio Santos

Does anyone know anything about this kid?  He looks like a big guy 6'3" 225.  Does he play exclusively at 3B?  He's bounced around a little from the D-Backs to the Blue Jay's system, he was a #1 draft pick out of HS and is still only 24.  In 113 games last year at AA he had 56 extra base hits.

The Twins just picked him up off waivers, is there still an upside here? or is he just going to be a AAA fill in?  Why did the Blue Jays dump him? The Twins could certainly use some depth at 3B.

I’m pretty sure the Twins are looking at converting him into a pitcher. He has a tremendous arm (mid to high 90’s) which allowed him to stay at SS for quite some time despite his lack of range.

He was dumped because he has below average ability at the plate and he strikes out a ton. He’s a low average hitter who wont walk a lot and will strike out a lot. He has pretty good power but nowhere near good enough to offset his inability to create solid contact.

He can’t hit a breaking ball. As metafour said, he has a 95mph four seamer, a cutter and I think a change. The Jays were likely trying to use this low point to sneak him off their 40-man roster before converting him to the mound.

Good job on the Twins to move in and nab him, if they are converting him. If the Twins are trying to make him a hitter, he’ll be back on waivers before too long. He seems like a good kid. He played in the AFL and Mexican League last winter, determined to learn to hit junk. But he can’t.

He's garbage

Had a terrible game in syracuse when I see him. He has a long swing and not much bat speed.

:D

So if a player wasn’t good on the day you happened to see them (you say the same thing about Bruce), then they can’t possibly be good?

I’m pretty sure both Foster and Loberstein would disagree with you. I’m not saying they think he is great but were pretty impressed with him in the Arizona Fall League when they saw him.

Santos

I saw him in the Eastern League All-Star game and Home Run Derby last year. He’s got some good pop in his bat.

Wow!

Great info guys, thanks!
Has the guy ever pitched in the minors?....or are you guys just messing with me. Seriously? This sounds too good to be true.

SS

Apparently he started at SS for Rochester today. I wouldn’t get too excited about his prospects as a pitcher, he’s never pitched in the Minors as far as I know and there’s no word on whether he can throw any of his pitches well.
