Chris Perez called up

Isringhausen on DL; Chris Perez recalled

The St. Louis Cardinals announced today that they have placed pitcher Jason Isringhausen on the 15-day disabled list with a right hand laceration and purchased the contract of Chris Perez from Class AAA Memphis.

The team also transferred pitcher Josh Kinney from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list to make room on the 40-man roster for Perez.

Perez, 22, was 1-1 with a team-leading eight saves --fourth in the Pacific Coast League --and a 2.04 ERA in 18 games for the Redbirds.-The 6-foot-4, 225-pound right-hander had fanned 22 batters in 17 2/3 innings, walked just nine and allowed only 12 hits.

Perez, the Cardinals' second overall selection in the 2006 draft (42nd overall) was a Texas League All-Star last season at Class AA Springfield. He combined for 35 saves in 37 chances between Springfield and Memphis last season.

The University of Miami product is a resident of Tampa, Fla.-He was rated this past offseason as the Cardinals' second-best prospect by Baseball America.-Perez will be wearing uniform No. 63 when the Cardinals play host to Tampa Bay this weekend.

Glad to hear...

From what I read this morning, they pulled Perez out of line while he was boarding the team flight to Las Vegas and told him he was going to the Bigs…then 30 minutes later said he wasn’t going. Now he is…imagine that. How many people did he call in those 30 minutes? Anyway, kind of funny now.

I think he may initially stuggle but could potentially be the closer come the end of the season, particularly since I don’t foresee the Cardinals keeping up with the Cubs all season.

Walks

I know he has had issues with control, but for some reason, I’m gonna call it the gut with no substantial statistical lines, I really think he steps in, saves around 20, and is the closer to start next year.

looked good tonight

he went right through the middle of the order for the rays and the only guy that reached was upton who perez sawed off, but pujols dropped the soft liner. he made longoria look silly dropping two 86 mph sliders in for called strikes then blew him away with a fastball. the heater was 94-98 tonight, and he was throwing strikes.
