MOD: Arizona Diamondbacks
The Diamondbacks have these picks for the draft this coming June:
First Round: 26.) Arizona
Supp. Round: 43.) Arizona
Second Round: 73.) Arizona
Third Round: 104.) Arizona
Fourth Round: 138.) Arizona
I have a few ideas down, and think that the organization is in dire need of a quality catcher. While Buster Posey and Kyle Skipworth won't last this long, I think there are some other quality backstops we could use a later pick on to make it so Chris Snyder isn't out catcher. I like Adrian Nieto a lot and have actually seen him a few times.
I also wouldn't mind a toolsy, HS outfielder that may take awhile to develop. Byrnes is 32, and I think taking somebody like Isaac Gallaway or Jordan Danks with our first pick may suit the team well.
As far as pitching, I think the team is pretty much set for now, so I would want a HS pitcher if I am going that route. Johnson is about 60 years old, but Owings, Webb, Haren, and Scherzer should be good for awhile. Maybe like a Brett Devall/Alex Meyer if they are available supplementary rounds, but I have some good, HS pitching sleepers in mind.

re
a polished catcher like Posey would be really nice. Snyder wasnt the answer in 2005 and isn’t the answer now. The quicker we get a solid backstop the better we’ll be. I have a feeling Posey will be gone by the time the Dbacks pick.
I also like the idea of a Galloway pick at #32. He has 5 tools and we’d have the elite OF with Young and Upton for the next decade. Power/Speed/defense package that would be unmatched for all three spots. Plus we could afford patience with Galloway as Byrnes (unfortunatey signed for $10/yr) for three years.
We’ve done well with pitching these last few drafts. Scherzer, parker, etc make this not as glaring a need as it is for most clubs. Especially with Webb, Haren, Owings already established for the forseeable future

Posey
I definitely think he will be off the board by pick #15 or so. I think Adrian Nieto will make a good pick in the supplementary rounds.
Another guy I like is UVA’s David Adams. He is polished, can hit, and is MLB ready. I don’t think Hudson is the long term answer at 2B.

catcher
I disagree with the idea that Catcher should be a priority. Snyder could be upgraded, but Montero was a highly regarded prospect (rated a B+, behind only Upton, Young, and Carlos Gonzalez in our system in 2007 by Sickels) and is off to a solid start this year splitting time behind the plate. He seems likely to be our long term starter there, or at least will get a solid shot. Catcher Ed Easley is also tied as the 2nd highest rated position player in our system according to John’s ‘08 prospect rankings (same C+ rating as 2 other position players) . The highest position player (and 3rd highest overall) is toolsy outfielder Parra. 2nd Base should be a higher priority than catcher or OF, where our only long term option seems to be the solid but not great Callaspo, consistently rated lower than Montero. We have no depth at all at 2B after Callaspo, but have some beyond Montero.
Of course, even with our pitching depth, it’s always good to stay stocked there.
