what is going on with Carlos Gonzalez

of the A's.  He hasn't been in the lineup for the last week except for one at bat.  Is he OK?  How is he looking?  Seems like he is taking the A's plate discipline philosophy to heart.  I guess with Emil Brown doing so well, the A's will most likely keep Gonzalez in the minors for a while.  Yet, the A's need power.  The signing of Thomas might relieve the power woes for a while.  Yet, don't the A's need a centerfielder?  Thoughts?

He was hurt swinging the bat in an AB, then when he came back I believe he sprained his ankle sliding into 3rd. Not very lucky, not sure how long he is out for … in any case I think they need to let him stay down most of the year.

Most of the year?

That seems a bit overly cautious to me… they want him to be up and acclimated to the major league lifestyle at least long enough that 2009 is not a “learning curve” season.

I’d say call him up right about the point where he’ll retain RoY eligibility for 2009. Although I guess that’s like a month and a half before the season ends, so that would be “most of the season…”

Well, I don’t know, they may need him sooner.
