Jordan Schafer suspended 50 games for HGH
Rotoworld:
MLB suspended outfielder Jordan Schafer 50 games for using human growth hormone.
Perhaps this partially explains Schafer's big leap forward last year, though studies on whether hGH really helps performance have yet to produce much in the way of results. Schafer has been viewed as a big-time talent since long before he was drafted -- Baseball America named him the top 13-year-old prospect in the nation in 2000 -- but he as often as not disappointed before blossoming in 2007.

Hmm...
Any word on how he was caught? Isn't hGH undetectable in the current drug-testing regime?

His stock just dropped off the earth for me
Get rid of him as now he's made the Texiera trade worse. That trade was between Andrus and Schafer. Now i'm mad and I hope he never sets foot in turner field.

He has no value now
The Braves should make Lillibridge a centerfielder now.

No Value Now....
So why trade him NOW?... If NOW he has no value.
Why not wait to see if he comes back and regains value? If he doesn't then he has no value just like right NOW. but if he comes back and does well well then he would have value then wouldn't he?

Oh wow
Man. What an idiot. Kid's got no reason to use that stuff. I guess we'll have to wait and see what he does when he comes back, but this could well be a psychological blow to him.
I know it certainly won't ingratiate him with the Atlanta organization. Probably pushes his timetable back a year, too.

He confessed
According to KG over at BP, he "confessed" to usage after being interviewed. I just wonder, since he was being interviewed, if he gave up any of his teammates - especially at the MLB level.

Response
Are you guys serious? He has no value at all? He makes you mad?
Whatever. He's still an extremely valuable asset and still stands a pretty decent chance of being a solid major leaguer, just as before. I can't say that I like that he's done this obviously, but he's not the first early 20-something kid to do something really stupid and regrettable in the course of trying to make a career for himself. Mark him off for "makeup" or drop him five spots on your prospect list or whatever.
From a development standpoint, all that really concerns me is that he's going to have to chill out for a couple of months on the sidelines. It's not a long-term problem obviously but maybe it takes him a little while to get his bearings again. Of course, a slump in such a context would be grounds for some of you dropping him all the way to like the No. 90 prospect or something, not that would even say anything other than that he's still pretty dang good.

who is "you guys"?
Braves07 is the only one I see dumping on him. All that I said (only other person complaining on this thread that I see) was that it was stupid, that he probably pissed off the organization, and that it costs him a year of development.
I guess I did refer to a "psychological blow" that was possible. He's probably the most visible minor leaguer to be associated with this, so I'm not really sure how much publicity this'll get. Maybe no one will really care.

Shafer
Here's the problem with Shafer now, though: how much of his "abilities" were fueled by HGH? Do they go away now that presumably the HGH is gone? This is what GM's all over baseball have to wonder now. Last year is out the window. He'll have to prove himself all over again.

Too Bad...
I would love to hear why he took it. Im hoping its a Paul Byrd thing, well not hoping, but maybe you get my point. Just stinks that a good young prospect is getting tagged with this early.
