stockton Ports best minrs rotation
Ben Badler had this to say about Stockton Ports:
Q: Jeff Sullivan from Belchertown MA asks:
What team has the best pitching staff in all of minor league baseball?
A:
Ben Badler: Yeah, Belchertown represent. I'll be rolling through there
in a couple weeks on the way to my alma mater (which I'm sure is a
little down today after last night's NIT Championship loss to Ohio
State). The best rotation from a prospect standpoint is Stockton, the
A's high-A affiliate. Brett Anderson, Fautino de los Santos, Trevor
Cahill and Henry Rodriguez. That's just not fair.

Cahill
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say Trevor Cahill. I just think he as the best mix of poise, speed, off-speed pitches and maturity between the four of them. I just have a good feeling about him.
But all four of those guys would be a #2 pitchers or better if everything breaks right and you couldn't go wrong with promoting any of them. It's like Sophie's choice. Do you promote the guy who can thow 100mph (H-Rod), the guy who has amazingly nasty offspeed pitches (Cahill), or the guy with amazing control (Anderson).
What's even crazier is that a prospect that was throwing no-hitters before getting injured (Lansford) looks to be Stockton's fifth starter and they have a few hard throwing high upside guys like Arnold Leon and Ghram Godfrey who couldn't even break the rotation yet. Even if you promote a guy or two you will still have one of the best rotations in the minors.
Sometimes life will strike you out on a curve ball and the only choice you have is to flip off the umpire and walk to first base anyway.

H Rod
Henry will be promoted first. Beane and Geren fell in love with him in spring training. The order will be:
H-Rod
DLS
Anderson
Cahill

Well
Here's a Low A staff that can hold it's own.
Rome Braves:
Jeff Locke
Steve Evarts
Jose Ortegano
Chad Rodgers
Edgar Osuna
The crazy thing about this is that all of them are 20 Y.O. and all are LHP

Good first week
There was definitely a lot of hype building up for this rotation, so as an A's fan it's nice to see them get off to a good start. Hopefully Lansford will keep it going in his start today and start to get his name mentioned with the big 4 ahead of him.
As for who will be promoted first I'm gonna take a wild guess and say Fautino De Los Santos. He's the oldest of the bunch and already has a good fastball/slider combo along with decent control and some High-A experience.

Double A Carolina (Marlins)
A big collection of arms at this level. Nothing elite, but just a ton of solid arms

Leon looks like he'll be in the bullpen
The A's have some kind of funky arrangement with Saltillo of the Mexican League whereby Leon is going to pitch for them during the summer, so they're going to want to limit his innings count in the U.S.
What a collection. Even discounting Lansford, who's terrible, the team has three top 100 prospects in the rotation-- and that's excluding the guy with the triple-digit fastball. And there's a decent bet that Craig Italiano will be replacing whoever gets called up first, which is hardly a downgrade.

I don't think Lansford's terrible
but it would be interesting, considering the A's lack of depth at the position, to move Lansford back to 3rd Base and see if he can make it there. The A's literally have no one in the minors at that position, and Lansford was going to be drafted as a 3B at the time, and only accepted as a pitcher because it was the A's.

I have a hard time going with "terrible" for Lansford
I'm not sure he's pitched nearly enough to have a strong adjective thrown around about him. And we're not sure how he'll come back from the injury, either. His K/BB ratio at Kane County was not good, but he was 19 and gave up just 1 HR in 100+ IP. He's minor league Kirk Saarloos (of course, Kirk Saarloos is also minor league Kirk Saarloos at this point).
Whatever. I'm not going to debate Stockton's, like, 9th best pitcher. If Lansford is terrible I'm pretty sure my life as an A's fan will not be negatively affected at all.

De Los Santos
Had a rough start to the game last night but settled down and got through 5 after giving up 4 runs (3 earned) in the first inning.

Not a great line but not terrible.

Carter off to slow start
I know this is mainly about the pitching staff but I thought it was interesting that while Chris Carter has struggled early he managed to hit his 2nd triple last night but still no homers.
