Eric Hosmer

Most of us know about Eric Hosmer, the uber-1B high school prospect. He has, by many accounts, a plus bat and glove, and, based on talent and on a Mark Texeira-like potential.

Star-divide

However, his agent is Scott Boras, and he is already known to be commanding large amounts of money, money that the top teams (Rays, Pirates, Royals) don't have. However, some teams that have money won't go over the slots set by MLB. How far can Hosmer fall, and can he fall to the Yankees?

He could fall a long way, and the Yankees are a possibility.

That being said, that's not necessarily reason for Yankees fans to be thrilled. This seems to be a draft that's pretty heavy near the top with solid looking 1B prospects, and most of them will probably come with a lower price tag. They're also not necessarily lesser prospects than Hosmer, and some of those college bats have a lot of polish on them already.

If they're willing to spend the money then he's not a bad pick I guess, but whether he's the most intelligent pick for the team even after taking financial matters out of the picture is kind of up in the air for me.

Unlikely

Callis wrote an article that said the slotting system my go by the way side, and I agree. Most teams realize they have to spend money in the draft, very few teams are going cheap these days. Also, every player in the first round signed last year -- bottom line is most of these kids WANT to play in the end.

RE

just because more teams will got over slot, dosent mean they will go 4 million over slot haha. big difference there.

I agree with the other post - I do not see him getting past the Mets and Tigers...and I will throw the Rangers in there as well.

This year

I don't see a team like the Mets or Tigers letting him fall that far.

Tigers

If he's there for the Tigers, I doubt they would pass on him. They will be looking to rebuild their farm system after sending so many guys out in trades.

hosmer

i think he is going to the rangers. they could use a big bat, and they showed last year they are willing to spend some money.
