The Minor's 4/29
A few guys mentioned already but here goes...
AAA- Radhames Liz was on tonight... 6-2-0-0-3-5... Good to see as he's had a rough season early on.
Reid Brignac went 3-4 with a double and knocked in a couple runs. He's hitting .253 with decent pop and plate discipline at Durham.
Big lefty David Purcey outdueled (well, out-Lasted really) JA Happ tonight as Syracuse beat Lehigh Valley. Purcey went 8-2-0-0-1-9 and Happ went 7-1-0-0-4-5
Jay Bruce went 0-4 with 2 k's...panic! kidding, He's great
Andy LaRoche is at AAA now. He went 0-3 as seemingly everybody but him had a night. Las Vegas 18 Albuqueque 5. Dallas McPherson is mashing for Alb...hit his 9th of the year tonight
Tacoma loses but Wlad Balentien and Jeff Clement are out of the lineup! Good news for Mariner fans! I'm hopin'. Both these guys can help the team right now.
I've always liked Shane Costa and had no reason to explain it. Now I can begin to. He's hitting .337 and hit his fifth homer tonight...5 homers, 8 K's...He's rakin'
Nelson Cruz hit his 9th homer, The desperate Rangers will probably purchase his contract any day now.
AA- Chris Tillman 5-4-1-1-2-6, Nolan Reimold 2-4 with a triple, Chris Volstad 7-4-1-1-0-8 Do your thing tall guy! Max Ramirez went 2-5 and is hitting .350.. what a hitter!
High A- Erik Sogard is destroying the Cal League. He hit his 15th Double tonight and is hitting .404. He's the MVP so far escept for a couple Stockton players maybe (Doolittle, Cahill)... Hot prospect John Lackey pitched 3 -1 hit innings tonight for Rancho Cucamonga...Matt Wieters went 1-9 in DH for Fredrick. He's struggling at .353 right now...Beau Mills went 0-6
Low A- Dayton (Reds) Brandon Waring went 2-3 with 6th and 7th homers tonight...Todd Frazier went 0-4 and is slumping a bit...Mike Moustakas went 0-6...Chris Parmalee went 0-3 with 2 K's...Mega-prospect Engel Beltre lead off the game with his first homer of the year in the same game Blake Beavan made his afformentioned, stellar debut for Clinton 6-3-0-0-0-3...Asheville's Brian Rike is going to play in the big leagues one day, He went 3-6 with a Triple and his 6th Homer...Zach McAllister 8-5-3-1-0-6 and 3-1 1.13 on the season
Looks like my boy Will Inman, Kersaw, Porcello and either McGee or Davis will go tomorrow

Pablo Sandoval is the Cal League MVP
He is hitting .439. His OBP is .495. His OPS is 1361.
He has hit 7hrs with 26 RBIs and 12 doubles.
And he is doing this at age 21 and in a very tough hitters park.

um
There is no such thing as a tough hitters park in the Cal League.

actually
The Cal League is very friendly to hitters. So a massive slugging percentage like that is pretty distorted. Plus we’re only about a month into the season. Granted, if he keeps that OPS up, he’ll be the Cal League MVP, but I don’t see that happening with any player.

well, there is, relatively.
http://www.baseballthinkfactory.org/files/oracle/discussion/minor_league_park_factors_2006/
every factor is under 1 (except strikeouts). i’m not sure if that’s relative to the league or the world in general or what, but we can at least say that san jose is one of the least-extreme run-scoring environments in the cali.
sandoval has a 1200 OPS at home vs. 1400 on the road, so there’s that. still so early in the year that even one game can throw samples off, of course, especially with splits. but i don’t think any of his homers have come in the silly parks (lancaster / high desert), either. i recall the southern cal parks being a lot worse than the northern in general.
of course, sandoval’s repeating the league, which is a discount. but he’s still a good age for high-A, and he’s a catcher.

Relative to league
All park factors are relative to league. Cali League’s league factor is somewhere around 115, IIRC.

Okay sounds good...
...if he keeps hitting like THAT. Sogard has been phenomenal though as well as Doolittle and Cahill.

moustakas
do you guys think that he could just be a streaky hitter, that when he gets on a hot streak it will make up for this drought?

hope so
His K/BB ratio is pretty good…without seeing any of his AB’s this year, it tells me he’s probably not too over matched right now. Hopefully he can heat up.

I think
Moustakas will prove himself sufficiently when he’s hoisting the 2009 AL MVP trophy. =X
I will be waiting...24601.
