Around SBN: Chan Sung Jung Wins Thriller Over Dustin Poirier

Nick Blackburn

Wow, I wasn't really sure what to expect from him.  Everyone besides BA was low on him, but after watching his first start it looks like BA may have been right.

7IP, 1 R, 6 K, 1 BB

That line is really good, but not the only thing that impressed me.  I was expecting him to be throwing in the high 80's and low 90's, but he was working from 93-94 and even hit 96.  He threw Vlad a 90 MPH slider.  On top of that he has great command.

I know it was only one start, but he looked amazing.

didn't watch

but the 12-3 GB-FB looks nice.

you sure the pitch he threw to vlad wasn't his cutter?

I was watching on the internet

so I couldn't really tell, but MLB.com has it as a slider

It was most likely

the cutter but I really like him he can bring the heat and has a decent curve the fastball and cutter have enough difference that they aren't the same pitch. I think he could be a decent 3 like Silva in his good years minus the 8 walk season.

90 mph pitch with that kind of movement

I'm sure pitch f/x called it a slider because of the amount of movement it had. So if it was a cutter, it had tremendous movement. Regardless of what you call it, it was 90 mph and it broke a lot. That's a damned good pitch.

He's a talented pitcher, but he's going to have a lot of ups and downs this season. There will be some outings like this and more than a few where he gets shelled and doesn't make it out of the third inning.

I probably disagree with you.
