Jason Botts...?
Very rarely do i ever star my thread, but after Texas DFA 'ed Jason Botts today, i am finally tempted to try this again.
What is the overall board opinion of Jason Botts? He has never had consistent Ab's in the majors, but has flat out raked in the minors. Currently he is striking out almost every other AB in the majors. He currently has 2Hrs, 8 BB and 3 2B's in 38 ABs. 5 of his 6 AB's have been for extra bases.
So? What do you think? Will he get picked up? Does he have a chance as a MLB regular?

Josh Phelps
Josh Phelps is who comes to mind when I look at Botts. A big strong bat who ‘looks’ like he should be a good player, however he tends to get himself out of games and can’t handle MLB secondary pitches. Once pitchers realized to not throw him a fastball over the plate he was finished, similar to what happened to Phelps.

Giants
By all right, Jason should go to the Giants. His grandfather is one of the best Giants fans in SF history, with long-time box seats right behind home plate.
It was Jason’s grandfather who presented the late Rod Beck Rod’s award on the field at Candlestick before what I think was the final Giants game in Candlestick history. Rod had been chosen the Giants’ all-time Candlestick reliever.
Jason’s grandpa deserves to see his son playing in AT&T Park.
By the way, I might be a little prejudiced here, since it was Jason’s grandfather who contacted Stacey Beck on June 15, 1996, the day my father passed away. My mom had asked me if there was anything I thought Dad would want us to do. I suggested the Giants honor him on the Candlestick scoreboard. Stacey set it up.
Between the fourth and fifth innings on June 16th, the scoreboard was filled with the words, “In memory of longtime Giants fan FRANKLIN L—-.” Jason Botts’ aunt took a picture of the scoreboard, and that picture is with me right here in my den now. It is, of course, my favorite picture ever.
